  • Speaker: John Roughan is Scared,

My last manager was terrific. Left you alone to get on with things, but had a great bullsh*t detector and deceptively sharp judgement.
And very union-friendly. So union-friendly, he's now policy director for CTU :)

  • Speaker: John Roughan is Scared,

I don't see how managers make that much difference.

You clearly have not be re-organised, reviewed, restructured or shunted into masses of mystifying 'metrics' nearly enough. (Or you could try hosting a decent-sized tapeworm :))
    Managers can make a difference.

  • Hard News: The Creepy Party,

I like Orcon too. Have found the phone help good, but that was a long time ago.
And fast? It varies considerably. But we are at the end of a lot of rural copper, and considering that, it can be blazing fast on occasion.

  • Hard News: Doing Science in Court,

Interesting, David, that you are so sure ('proved incorrect'?) global warming is "not being caused by CO2".
Here's the thing: the IPCC know they don't "know for sure". Because they have a clue about science.
But you are convinced you know they are wrong. Which means you know just enough to be completely and wildly misguided about what a scientific debate would even look like :)

  • Hard News: Doing Science in Court,

Popper (who, apparently, he admires, although I've not yet seen that admiration come out in his ability to talk about science

No, it'll be the "The Open Society and Its Enemies" line of work that spins Rodney's wheels, I'm guessing. Not that it's a bad book (not that I've read it!) it's just not especially enduring (unlike falsification, for all its flaws.)
And one suspects Popper would be horrified at the 'Climate Denialists'.

  • Hard News: iPad Impressions,

And in the meantime, net neutrality looks like it's about to take a big hit.
That will, ahem, effect the mincing, superior i-person, the plain grey MS clone, and the ghostly attic-dwelling still-wearing-the-same-underpants-I-turned-13-in linux-fiend alike.

Re pricing: this post at You Are Not So Smart is worth a read. (h/t merc :)
I'm sure Apple know a thing or two about psychology.

Crisis: One Central Bank Governor and the Global Financial Collapse

Sheesh. He's blaming David for the Global Financial Crisis? That's some serious payback :)

  • Hard News: Out of the Box,

Fairly solid coverage on RNZ this morning. Since RNZ are the media for me, that seems like saturation :)

  • Hard News: The truth about "Party Central",

Marcus- yep, totally. I hate dramatisations or re-enactments of real crimes. As a genre, tacky crime-porn voyeurism is one of the worst.
Caught a few minutes last night, and hated it.
I tend not to bother with dramatisations of real events, or 'bio-pics' either. They exude inauthenticity. If the story's that good and you gotta tell it, make a documentary, dude. And yes- that means you can't have heavy-breathing and hand-held simulations of flight and panic.
Or make up a story up and go to town on it :)
