  • Hard News: A plot point is reached,

...Stewart as Winston, in a plot twist to stun us all.

(also starring Katherine Hepburn as Helen Clark...

Simon - not sure how to break this to you, but Jimmy Stewart and Katherine Hepburn are, erm, dead.

I was astounded at Peters' galling hypocrisy in stating that NZ First had done nothing wrong by splitting the donation into seperate bits of less than $10,000 each, because they had

    consulted the Electoral Commission

and therefore weren't trying to hide it! WTF???!!!

  • Island Life: Off the top of my head.,

I did like the hairy bits. I had one that felt about five times that size removed from the back of my head (no jokes, please). Was never given the opportunity to see it.

The most nauseating medical procedure I had, amongst a number, was the insertion of a large needle into my shoulder (after anaesthetic, thank God), through which dye and air was alternately pumped in order to expand the joint and display the damaged bits. It's very weird wandering around with large pieces of metal protruding from your body.

I am intrigued as to what Damien Christie's pic was - perhaps a burnt finger from New Year's Even 2007/8 inflicted while letting off fire crackers at my neighbour's at 2am?

  • Island Life: Cruel and kind of, like, random.,

Gve the guy a break - he was tired, seperated from his family and he just wanted to call home and this prick was being difficult. It's not like it actually hit him...did it?

  • Hard News: The Spiral of Events,

Winston sounded like he was on the ropes and almost out this morning. Even his cliches were coming out mangled and the bite was definitely toothless (excuse the mixed metaphors).

But then Plunket let him off the hook! He moved from trying to get the details of what was said between Sir Bob and NZ First and their relative positions vis a vis the books and payments - and then he changed tack and asked about whether he should stand down! Damn - he almost had him.

It was such a shame - Peters did a great job on the Winebox but turned the whole media attack thing into a perceived conspiracy from the powers behind the veil which he's fed off for years. Now he's been exposed as a hypocrite and he's hiding behind the semantics of the law. Shame on him.

Actually, a pox on all their houses. It's hard to not become increasingly cynical about the whole beltway thing and how it operates.

  • Hard News: I've been hybridising for a…,

Isn't it great - 'old media' poking the stick at 'new media'.

    *yawn* How tiresome. How 1990s.

FFS - Doesn't Clifton understand how corrupt MSM has become? Sure bloggers have a viewpoint (albeit some rather disturbing, vitriolic nonsensical rambling BS) - but then, as Rupert Murdoch said,

every newspaper has the duty to reflect the prejudices of its readers.

Clifton should read Flat Earth News to get a handle on what newspapers in the UK are like - 80 % of their material is not generated inhouse, owners of news media are completely compromised in their collusions with politicians and journalists are confined to their desks doing churnalism at best.

Helen Sissons at AUT School of Journalism is doing similar research here - it's going to be interesting to see the parallels.

  • Hard News: Radio Times,

A word of dissension - Morning Report is growing boring - same topics, same interviewees, Groundhog day, blah blah blah. Tune in any time and it could be last week or the month before. Do we really need five interviews on whether Owen Glenn gave NZ First $5000 and Winston lied/forgot/never knew about it? Please - aren't there more interesting things out there? Repetitive political minutiae is mundane and banal and once I have the major topics I move on because I've heard enough!

Weekends are (mostly) for music - sorry Craig et al. - I keep forgetting and judging by Craig's always interesting posts, I'm sure the radio thing would be a blast.

I apologise in advance for self-promotion, but as an alternative to RNZ and the long-running children's stories on b, you can catch my enthusiastic amateur hour on http://www.georgefm.co.nz/show42.html from 7.30 to 10am.

Fiona did call me the "...hip Chris Laidlaw." (though judging from comments regarding his show, this may be a small step up). At least the music is better.

  • Hard News: The Mood,

So National can pass a few acts in their first month in government and sort this out, and then every thing will be sweet! :D

Robyn - can I quote you on your masterful summation?

And to your list, may I add:
    - Global Warming
    - The pending collapse of the world finance system
    - Asian immigration
    - Third World Health provision
    - High interest rates
    - Dog attacks
    - P
    - Gangs
    - Dodgy finance companies
    - Poor public transport
    - Underinvestment in infrastructure
    - Crap weather (I'm from Auckland)
    - John Banks (see above)

    Some questions:

Will the mood of the electorate swing against National (assuming they win) once they prove as unable to do anything about petrol and food prices, as it appears to be doing in Australia against Rudd's Labour Govt?

Just what level of crime does the Sensible Sentencing Trust and others concerned with crime expect? None?

Just what IS National offering us, other than 'not Labour'?

(just joking about John Banks, of course. He's out of the National fold - they won't do ANYTHING about him)

Whatever people think of Anderton, he does listen to evidence.

He didn't seem too interested in the evidence on BZP when he came on my show on George FM. I would even go so far as to say 'closed-minded', even.
