  • Hard News: John Key(nesian),

You mean National will fix things in indefinable ways, or infrastructure bonds will? Or debt?

PPPs. The evidence that they're a better way of funding infrastructure is scant, but they're ideologically appealing.

PPPs. Don't look to the West John, they've been a bit of mixed bag mate.

They have everywhere, but it's like an article of faith on the centre-right that they will fix things in indefinable ways.

Cullen has also pointed out that the Nats' version of infrastructure bonds will offer a guaranteed return from the projects they fund, which rather conjures the prospect of digging a very big hole for yourself if things don't work out.

And would the guaranteed bonds still qualify as a hoax according to National's Craig Foss?

  • Hard News: John Key(nesian),

Labour presided over the mortgage bubble, and now they are copping it for the bust.

Yep. Public debt was reigned in and and private debt went wild. I'm not sure what a government might have done about that though.

PS: Wanna buy a Lexus? ;-)

Going completely off topic, was that, in fact, a younger Russell Brown in the Toto 'Africa' video I happened to catch yesterday during the C4 80's marathon. The people should know.

I can confirm it is not. Although I did use to get mistaken for the bloke from Godley & Creme when I lived in London ...

I don't actually disagree with you Craig, although it seems Labour would run tighter accounts than National. That's what Key says.

  • Hard News: Food Show 08,

I checked out The Flat White website -- it plays Shapeshifter!

I was also quite pleased to see a column I wrote for Unlimited in 2006 reproduced in their press section. I'm still waiting for Fonterra to underwrite that global chain of flat-white-serving proper cafes though ...

    __ can't say i'd have spent $3000 on a coffee machine myself__

And yet you wonder why not everyone can make good espresso when a "munter" like yourself can.

When it comes to espresso, good kit is important.

Sure. But I meant: "why can't people paid (and often actually trained) to make coffee for customers, with professional kit, make a coffee somewhere near as good as I can at home?"

Oh, and just in case you thought going to Gloria Jean's for your chain coffee was cool, it ain't.

As The Fundy Post has pointed out, the chain supports the really creepy Mercy Ministries.

  • Hard News: Food Show 08,

Dominos, if its the one I think you mean. They used to do great vegetarian lasagnes, back in the days when I was experimenting with vegetarianism (well, experimenting with vegetarian women would probably be more accurate).

    Lol.

Yes, it was Dominos I was thinking of. Good tofuburger.

__Just made a coffee. I could see it was coming out beautifully straight away by the blobbing and tiger-striping. I'm now back to wondering why 90% of cafes can't make a cup as good as some munter like me can make at home ...__

    Doh!

Sorry, this is from a different machine to the manual one you linked to in your main piece? By the way, what's the name of the manual contraption, it greatly appeals!

It's a Vibiemme Domobar espresso machine, which came via our relationship with Karajoz, and the Great Blend in particular. It's the all-stainless steel one, and I can't say i'd have spent $3000 on a coffee machine myself, but by golly I love having it.

The manual one is the Presso. Espresso Engineers should be able to sell you one. For that matter, they should be able to advertise one ...
