Raymond, Crosby/Textor will be delighted. You've just repeated their talking points without even realising you've been told what to think.

You forgot those other paragons of altruism Holly - Brownlee, Ryall and Collins.

  • Speaker: Play by Discretion,

What with the way most professional sport appears to be increasingly aimed at a pot bellied yob with an IQ equalling his shoe size and the attention span of a goldfish, I would sob uncontrollably if ALL vestige of Corinthian standards were to vanish from the only game were even a vestige remains.

Anyway, the British media say Vettori used "rude Anglo-Saxon" and both sides apologised for their respective bad behaviour, which give me renewed hope for the greatest game of them all when it is not played by the descendants of base Irish convicts.

  • Island Life: Hunting Squirrels,

Whilst it is fair to say it is impossible to outspend the Herald in Auckland, I would guess that if you graphed Labour's decline in popularity in the big smoke against the rise in petrol prices and interest rates there would be a strong relationship between the two in the heavily car dependent and indebted Auckland mortgage belt.

After all, the kiwiblog sewer has been with us since well before 2005, but their tone of constant cultural cringe defeatism has only gained traction now people want to "blame the gummint." Labour has to hope that A) the petrol price bubble bursts soon and B) the reserve bank cuts interests at least once (and hopefully twice) before the election. Labour HAS to campaign on its economic record, because it is very a good record and because as people have mentioned the stewardship of Michael Cullen has marked him as possibly our best ever finance minister. If Labour can point to signs that the economy is over the worst and we've suffered the least of any economy from the fallout from the money printing of the economic lunatics in the White House, then I would say the polls would reverse as well.

dc_red: As far as I can tell, National's ACC policy hasn't changed from 2005, so add that one. I reckon one effective ad for Labour could be to show a pair of boys, one white one brown, whistfully watching a rugby match from the sidelines. When an adult asks them why they don't on and play, have one of the kids say "My parents can't afford the insurance."

Hey Craig, just out of curiosity when confronted IRL does the bluster go away and all we are left with is an unattractive whining gay guy with a big mouth?

What I am saying is this issue has descended into a dark political farce of the fundamentalists own making. With Churchillian certainty McCroskie and co set out to ensure that truth and informing the public were the first - and deliberate - casualties in this political war.

Family Fist and their off-siders have played a particular game that is all about cynical wedge politics, and have insisted on using the rulebook written by Karl Rove. So they can hardly complain if Helen Clark can also read a rulebook.

Graeme are you telling me the lies that Family Fist and co used to beat up this piece of disgraceful hysteria showed a great deal of respect for informed democracy? I've confronted these idiots collecting signatures (at the BEACH, FFS) and been hissed at for my troubles.

This whole exercise has been a deeply cynical Trojan horse exercise by reactionary fundamentalists, and I think returning the favour by pushing out the referendum date to a meaningless date is the least we can do.

Personally I hope its about three month after the election, so that it occurs when one is interested in voting and the result will have no impact on the new parliament. That would be keeping with the spirit that the anti-section 59 campaign has been waged and give it the importance it deserves.

  • Hard News: Spectacular but useless,

I noticed on the news the other night that the police allowed TVNZ journalists "behind the scenes" on one of their murder investigations, with a view of the operations room and the timeline storyboard, etc etc. Definetely part of a PR campaign by the police. And not before time in my view. Constant attacks on the credibility of the police have consequences, not the least of which is having to listen to the hot headed and foolish comments of Peter Lowe in the media. His comments came perilously close to incitement in my view. I notice Mr. Lowe appears to be being primed and fired by the Sensible Sentencing Trust, whose recent antics seem to veering more and more to encouraging an extra-judicial lynch mob mentality.
