    @Anorak

Making abortion available on demand, with perhaps at least one mandatory chat with a counsellor, seems like a sensible way forward.

This is pretty much my view. Surgical abortion is not trivial, and it is an appropriate occasion for counselling, whether or not a woman changes her decision. But in the end, the state shouldn't force a woman into something as profound as pregnancy and that which lies after.

  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

    Scientific fact:
At conception a baby is alive.
At conception a baby is human.

I'm sorry, but that's patently absurd. If you're going to call the single cell produced by conception a "baby", you might as well call it an adult. Or an All Black, for that matter ...

  • Hard News: Breaking up the Band,

I wonder where SBW would play if he converted - he'd have a lot to learn if he played in the loose forwards, perhaps at Centre?

Well, who'd have guessed that Thorn would get the hang of it so well? Perhaps in the Crusaders SBW would learn fast?

__Teh wimmins! They are crushing the poor men beneath their mighty Amazonian jackboot with their insistence on rights to personhood and bodily autonomy and whatnot!__

Michael basset said it. It must be true.

I gather that's the actual title of his next work.

  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

If Russell wants to stir up a bit of abortion fanaticism I'm more than happy to oblige in giving opinion holders a target to vent at.

Mark, the problem with trolling is that it implies a lack of respect for the others involved in the discussion. It can be funny in short bursts, but it quite quickly becomes dull and corrosive. And a bit embarrassing to watch.

    C'mon.

and the upshot is, that alot of prochoicers are not in fact prochoice, but pro woman's choice

Well, only if I accept the specious claim of equivalence central to your argument.

Meanwhile, back to the rugby, and Tracey Nelson's game stats are back:

Fascinating as usual. Ali Williams paid tribute last week to the athleticism of Brad Thorn. Yup. He won the first-three-to-the-breakdown stats in both halves, and tackled like a bastard too. Hope yet for the Sonny Bill move to union?

Teh funny from No Right Turn:

    **Shorter Michael Bassett**

David Lange was an empty vessel with no ideas of his own, so we gave him some and used him to sell Rogernomics to an unsuspecting people. Then someone else gave him some other ideas and stole our puppet. This was evil and wrong.

P.S. For those who haven't read it yet, I recommend Steven Price' short post arguing that the Sensible Sentencing Trust has committed a criminal contempt of court. I think Steven finds more contempts of court than David Farrar finds breaches of the Electoral Finance Act, but this one is particularly delicious.

Good grief. Why isn't there more of a fuss about this? It's a particularly damning illustration of teh stupid ...
