  • Pennsylvania, at last,

That's what I mean about it all depends on how the maths is done. If Florida and Michigan are included then she's got the lead (not likely to last long). Real Clear have it under Popular Vote (w/FL & MI).

That's not an uncontoversial way of looking at the votes as many will argue that those states should not be counted but it's an argument that might sway some supers. Those votes may not get counted now but they will be voting in Nov.

So if you overturn the rules, ignore the delegate count, and count votes from two banned primaries where Obama didn't even campaign, the supers could declare Hillary the winner? That'll go down well ...

  • Hard News: Hot Media,

    That's fucking awesome.

    Yep, that's good.

That vaccine compensation story was reported badly nearly everywhere. The young woman compensated suffered an adverse reaction to a vaccine that left her with some symptoms that were like some of those of autism. It wasn't anything like "proof that vaccines cause autism".

Meanwhile, sadly, Obama and Clinton have joined McCain in paying lip service to pseudoscience with respect to this issue.

The endless Democratic primary race finally has another round. Hillary Clinton is expected to win -- but how well does she have to win to stay in the race? Post your links, updates and comments here.

If it wasn't for Russell's suggestion that there is more to this than meets the eye, I would have assumed from what was said that someone had made allegations they couldn't substantiate and was forced to apologise when someone called bullsh*t.

I have professional links on both sides of the dispute and I really don't feel able to comment in detail; not least because there are already heavy letters flying around. But the dictated apology was run not on merit, but because one side has considerably deeper pockets than the other. Let's just say I think things have been poorly handled.

Which begs the question, since one can get 24Mbit with current DSL copper technology, and VDSL2 is even faster, why do we need fibre to the home? Is this a subsidy for a small minority that want HDTV movies in the time in takes to make a cuppa?

I honestly think applications will fill the space.

And speed isn't the only thing that makes ubiqutious fibre better than DSL.

I'd just like to point out that someone from APN is watching this thread closely.

I expect they would be! But I'm sure we get a lot of accesses from APN IP numbers.

    All page impressions happily welcomed.

__Don't go into journalism Josh, your research of primary sources is too scary - what you really need to do is say "he said.... but she said no he's wrong". You can fill pages and pages doing that. ;-)__

Uhhh... is that a compliment? Sorry, my sarcasm detector is playing up.

It was a very nice compliment.

    Me too.

  • Hard News: Hot Media,

Something that makes me gloomy is that TV3 trot out DOCTOR Lillian Ng (their emphasis) on health issues. I think this adds a certain richness to some issues, but I lament her interpretation of health research. I know that we do train our doctors to a certain level of epidemiological knowledge, but mostly they're learning how to make us well, not understanding the nuances of the clinical research in the background.

I think of it as something should work but really just doesn't.

Finally, yes self-identified climate change skeptics may well have come by their opinions honestly and without financial incentives. Unfortunately, the history of things like the lung cancer-tobacco connection, with its front groups and industry-funded jiggered research, tends to make me skeptical of those skeptics, and wonder whether they aren't useful idiots.

In some cases, it's the same people who were Big Tobacco people.

And you're not the only one to draw parallels between the respective lobbies' tactics.

  • Hard News: Not all victims are equal,

No, I was referring to the way one comment by Marie Davis's mother was reported, and linking it to the 'Suicide Girls' beat-up. You're right, she wasn't screaming about it at all, but it became a banner headline. That's what disturbs me.

Absolutely. The Star Times filled up half its front page on the basis of single comment from Marie Davis's mother.

Add to that the risible speculation in various other programmes and publications about the link to a movie Marie couldn't possibly have seen -- an angle all those publications then quietly dropped.
