  • Legal Beagle: It's (almost) never that simple,

Wasn't there a case way back in Winston's Tauranga days when Bob Clarkson (?) used billboards for free since he owned them? The debate was whether the "free" use of those billboards was a donation or an election expense. The outcome of that seems relevant to a bill-board/radio broadcast.

  • Hard News: Finally, the Teapot Tape?,

It seems very clear to me that what Key fears (feared) most was being ridiculed foe such an inane un-Primeministerial conversation better suited to a pair of adolescents. So what to do? Use the police to try and hide it all. Shame on him!

  • Up Front: What if We Held an Election…,

I reckon that I must be the only person to knowingly process a vote for a dead person. I knew well the 94 year old woman who came into the booth, voted then came back to the table to ask for a ballot for her husband who had died 6 months previously. I started to explain but then gave her a Special vote. She was happy.

But of course I put her ballot into the informal vote envelope and I marked it as invalid with an explanation and waited for the police to come for me.
They didn't but the little old lady died happy a year later.

  • Hard News: Democracy Night,

The Joyce tactic has been to avoid contact and thus preventing issues firing up. People become energised when there is an issue that affects them or when there is a clearly defined enemy. So by lying low the enemy is ill defined.
Note how tonight various Government Ministers have appeared when they were largely absent during the election?

Asset Sales will be off the table but I suspect that it was a deliberate red herring.

  • Hard News: Last Words,

On TV1 John Keys dreadfully filmed monologue singlehandedly won the worst video of the year award. Appalling. What are they playing at! 1/10
Labour production values wonderful, range of speakers, clear past successes and future intentions. Credible persuasive and watchable. 9/10

  • Hard News: Last Words, in reply to Tom Semmens,

Farrar’s exclusive has been destroyed as an anti-NZF ploy, by Sprout and Graeme Edgler who have pointed out that Winston is eligible under the Electoral Act and nothing to to with the Incorporated Societies Act 1908.
So of course they must know that NZF is over the threshold and in a piece of poetic justice Winston will be able politely be in a stronger position than had they left him alone this time, and last time for that matter. Some strategic NZF votes coming up.

  • Hard News: Last Words,

Take a closer look at Horizon Polling. 95% of their 3000+ respondents are picked from the 2006 Census. At the bottom the page in their current (23-24 Nov) results they have interesting stats on landline ownership.
After the election the accuracy of the polls will be interesting given that Horizon has Labour at about 28% but National at about 35% and NZF at about 9%.

I know what I'm voting and it is anyone except National or ACT or UF.

  • Hard News: A week being a long time in politics, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

Tut tut Craig. You do realise that Mr Key does not need to refer to a crib sheet only because he does not front up for serious interviews and therefore has no questions to answer. How could anyone challenge Mr Key's claim for example, that he/they have added 2,000 nurses to the workforce. He says it then runs.
Phil Goff does at least front.

  • Hard News: The perils of political confidence,

It has been said that the Key Department is very very sensitive about staff Security- almost paranoiac.

  • Hard News: The perils of political confidence,

"FRENCH PRESIDENT Nicolas Sarkozy told US president Barack Obama he was fed up dealing with Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu and considered him a liar. .......Mr Sarkozy made the alleged comments during a private conversation with Mr Obama ......and the remarks were overheard by a small number of journalists but not initially reported."
Odd that neither Obama nor Sarkozy could stop publication but Key can.
    A very similar situation?
