Believe it or not, if I was American I'd change my voter registration to Democrat just so I could cast a primary vote for Obama. Not a flawless candidate by any stretch of the imagination, but forget all this crap about 'Is America ready for a black President' and ask this one: Is America - and the world - ready for a President who can be mistaken for an adult with the lights on?
Me too. I keep waiting for something to snap me out of it, but I just keep finding him impressive.
His main whoopsie with potential Democrat voters so far has been failing to put sufficient distance between him and a preacher who claims to have been cured of homosexuality.

Ha ha. Now answer the bloody question, how do you reconcile being 'pro life' and 'pro death'? He wants Creationism taught in schools, but believes science has proved bumblebees can't fly, and uses that as a metaphor for his campaign.
Check this out. The director of the school science curriculum in Texas has been forced to resign after sending a private email to several colleagues notifying them of a talk on the conflict over teaching evolution.
Yup: science teacher forced to resign for implicitly endorsing science ...

Something that just occurred to me about Iraq. The received wisdom that war is good for the economy seems to have been completely forgotten.
Not as much as the "we're saving the women of Iraq from the Islamic extremists" rationale has been forgotten.
But there's a reason for that.

For some reason, the armchair brigade seem to think that the All Blacks are so high and mighty and arrogant that they should have been far enough ahead for those little things not to matter! They expect better of them than to have to wallow in the mere foibles of refereeing.
I think so too. It bugs me that it's so un-PC to note that this was an unprecedented game.
As you say, the All Blacks have played better. But there simply has never been a test half where one side has been so overwhelmingly dominant in all measures and yet somehow failed to procure a single penalty. The French did infringe, of course, multiple times, and it was not unreasonable for the All Blacks to continue to pour on the pressure in the expectation of a penalty. It usually works a treat.. But Barnes was not competent. And then, of course, he over-ruled his touch judge to award the winning try. It's just not rational to dismiss the role of the referee in that game.
It also bugs me when the carping chorus fails to acknowledge that the All Black forward tight forwards were magnificent . It's years since I've seen an AB lineout that dominant.

Clint Rickards should have leave his family out of it. But so should you, RB. Clint's children have no choice about who their father is so back off of them please.
Rickards has repeatedly mentioned his children (and been photographed with his daughter) at the same time as he's denigrated women who were as young as 16 at the time of the events. It seemed to me the one question that might actually make him sit up and acknowledge how horrible the behaviour of him and his mates was.

Which in itself it interesting to watch, even if their opinions are not. I tend to think they expend political capital by doing this, that yes, they can move opinion. But I think the average reader has a strange sense of balance about how often they let a paper move their opinion. It's not an unlimited power, it's more like a card that can be played.
The tone of the campaign has made it hard to have a rational discussion about the bill's shortcomings. We just all of a sudden got to the point where people were carrying placards with swastikas on them on the marches. And Roughan and O'Sullivan's columns on the issue have become unreadable.
I'm still not 100% comfortable with elements of the EFB myself. But John Boscawen's astroturf activities -- phone-spamming 80,000 people in Labour electorates included -- had the perverse effect of making me swing more behind it. He just comes across as yet another man with lots of money and a raging sense of entitlement, and that gives me the creeps.
