Well, yes, CR, I do take your point insofar as the Communist Party's anti-comics crusade and eighties antiporn feminism went, and in hindsight, the GM moratorium was based on insufficient extrapolated data about risk or harm. However, as you note, there are some technologies that aren't so benign. Social conservatives of whatever allegiance do tend to get into a moral panic when it comes to media technologies, though.
Incidentally, if Facebook is the spawn of Satan, why is there a Facebook link on the FamFirst website?

Yes, CR. but the Christian Right has been like this about every form of media technology conceivable- from film censorship (1930s -1970s) to video/CD/DVD censorship (1980s- Present) to Internet censorship (1990s- ). Sigman is part of a long trend.
Ah, Bob McCoskrie...a Man-Bartlett for a new century. Shame it's the nineteenth...

For once, I tend to agree with my namesake. Trotter is to the New Zealand left what the doddering entourage of Daily Telegraph sock con hacks who attack the Cameron administration are to the UK centre-right. He's strategically challenged and clueless.
There are times when I want to strangle him for his sheer utter quasi-marxoid fundamentalism and sectarianism. When you think about it, who better than to have as a 'left' commentator in a business periodical? Damn, I miss Bruce Jesson...

Damn. Now I'll have to get rid of my 'Repeal
Michael Lhaws' t-shirt...Craig Y

Yes, why do the Brits need an Outrageous Fortune
adaptation, when they've already got Shameless...
which, I seem to recall, preceded it in terms of
series longevity. -
As for Comrade Trottersky, gahhhh!
Is the reason that he gets sinecures as "left
commentator' by business periodicals because
he makes the 'left' look neanderthal and solely
focused on his idiosyncratic take on Class Politics?Craig Y.

I think the reason that the Tories probably snatched possible defeat from the jaws of victory had something to do with the Liberal Democrat strength. Faced with the prospect of electoral reform that would end up possibly keeping the Tories out of power for a generation or more, Labour and the LibDems will now probably stitch up a coalition deal, with Brown as a probable casualty.
And as for the reason the Tories scored their pyrrhic victory, blame their own militant tendency- David Ashcroft and the fundie capitalists who bankrolled individual Tory candidates- the Conservative Party's own 'militant tendency' and with equally destructive effect, it would seem.

The SST is a classic case of law and order moral panic, particularly as described in Stuart Hall's work on authoritarian populism during the heyday of Thatcherism in the late seventies,
eighties and early nineties. Enter populism, stir up moral ioutrage,
contact the unreflective tabloid media, light the tory blue touchpaper
and stand well clear...Craig

Oh, Dr Moo.
I keep wondering when she'll finally admit that she's been a closet member of the Republic of New Zealand Party all along and only joined ACT to almost fatally undermine it. And hey, she also hates other women- check out her mates in the male backlash fraternity...

As someone who had an intellectually disabled cousin, I refuse to watch Breakfast on TVNZ until that ignorant piece of ableist folderol apologises for the offence that he has caused. Or purchase any of the products advertised during the course of that programme. Does anyone else want to expose them to the wrath of an organised consumer boycott?
Thank the goddess for Sunrise on TV3.
