  • Hard News: Self-satisfactorily Yours,

Make sure you watch Razor as well, not sure if that'll be on DVD

The 'Razor' episodes are included as part of the box set of season 4 pt 1. You can buy them separately, and there are (I think) slight differences in the material (a few extra scenes, I think). Probably not worth it, though.

  • Up Front: The Missionary Position,

when the mormons came around and disturbed her sleep she'd stand there dazed and just let her robe slip until they ran away .....

We're having renovations done at the moment. This has meant me sleeping on a mattress in the living room for some nights. Our living room floor is visible through the front door.*

Two JW's woke me up a while ago on a sunday morning. The changing expressions on thier faces as they realised that the pile of old rags on the corner of the room was alive (well, sorta) and that something was crawling out of it was priceless. Fortunately for them I had pants on....

*You can't actually see in from the road or anything, in case anyone was wondering. You have to be well onto our property...

  • Hard News: Mac Ouch,

I have resorted to a dab of Araldite on the fitting.

You might want to change to superglue. Sticks to the skin easier, and you don't have to wait 4 hours for it to dry before you go to the gym.

How do you get the araldite out of your ears afterwards?

  • Hard News: Mac Ouch,

How pathetically geeky is someone going to see 'Watchmen' at 12.01am?

Geeky, but awesome geeky not pathetic geeky.

First film in ages I've been genuinely excited about. let us know how it is - one word will do ('good', or 'rubbish').

  • Hard News: The Casino,

We put a fiver in one of the pokies, and it burped out around $40. Great, thinks I. Let's get out while we're ahead and go to the bar. I turned around, turned back again, and my friend had already fed half the money back into the machine. I had to grab them and physically drag them away before it all went back where it had come from. Not the most uplifting experience I've ever had.

I should probably clarify that one of the reasons that this unsettled me so much is because my friend had gone from affable, happy-go-lucky, perfectly pleasent companion, to wearing the sort of bug-eyed, lock-jawed 1000-yard stare I've only otherwise seen on people off their nut on some serious speed. Talking with increasing volume and concern into their ear didn't have much effect.

  • Hard News: The Casino,

If anyone can point me in the direction of any 'gambling psychology 101' stuff, I'd really be interested.

I went to the Sky City Casino once with someone I know. Now, gambling is not something I 'get', at all, for all the reasons Russell outlined. Added to that, I've gone to the races a couple of times, just to see what all the fuss is about. Seems to me that when you go to the races, you're effectively paying money to watch horses run around in the distance. That doesn't really do it for me.

My friend, on the other hand....

  • Hard News: The strange story arc,

My wife had some interesting comments on the whole Jade Goody/racism issue - she reckons it was more that Jade Goody was intimidated and lashing out more than anything else.

Considering that the contrast between Shilpa Shetty - a polished, poised, intelligent, classy, attractive woman - and Jade Goody could not really be more stark, I tend to agree.

Whichever way you cut it, life does seem to have delighted in giving her a good kicking.

  • Hard News: Get yer avatars out,

the primary social role of a good government is to keep people happy.

something makes me a little uncomfortable with that statement.

Sounds like someone needs a gramme of soma. Remember citizen, a gramme is better than a damn!

While the Code may act as a de facto regulatory framework, it has no status in law at present, which is a major chickenshit move by government officials in that they should have been drawing up real regulations for this Act.

    Correct.
