  • Busytown: Front, man,

Paul Henry is a father of 3

Sadly the ability to make babies does not imbue greater wisdom.

I want in life is to become a Dame.

I think I must be tired because I just saw you as a 20's flapper with some guy in a pinstripe suit saying "whadda a dame" ...

    Did Bart steal them all?

    I didn't do it!

We just have cheap scratchy ones here at work and they make my nose all red and sore :(

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

I would love that movie so much more if there was a single happy ending in it for a woman who's not Martine whatshername

Aw come on Harriet and Carla seemed pretty damn happy with Colin at the end!

    And Joanna got her Sam!

But yes more female hearts were broken, well unless you assume Karl was really upset by not getting into Sarah's bed - seems unlikely but possible.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

What bugs me about this is I love weddings and civil unions. I really really love being at an occasion that celebrates that fact two people really love each other and want to codify that love in some way. Yes that makes me a complete sap I know (I also really enjoy watching Love Actually each year at Christmas).

Why should anyone be prevented from having that celebration codified in the way they want to.

We are talking about one of the best things about being human, that ability to bond with and love another human, and we want to place limits on that because of some outdated tribal ceremony?

Nobody is harmed if Craig and his partner get married. Really just because Craig gets something he wants does not take it away from anyone else. And I'm sorry but people who feel it does take something away from them are simply wrong, in the same sense that people who believe the earth is flat are wrong.

It is wrong the we still prevent some people in our society from celebrating their love in the way they want to. It's even worse that we deny them some basic rights that unipenis couples have!

See there, that's what I mean ... totally ruined my buzz from thinking about loving couples again.

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

There actually are some honourable people out there, and Andi Brotherston appears to be one of them.

    snort.

She's a PR hack! Now I accept it is possible that she could be a decent an honourable person. However, she did release a statement that essentially described all New Zealanders and all employees of TVNZ as racist bigots who are too scared to say it out loud. And her job is to "make things look good" no matter what it takes to do that.

Until I know better from personal experience or from someone I trust I am going to assume anything from her is a cynical attempt to manipulate the public for corporate goals.

Other Half. Suggests you are a bit broken.

And without her I would be.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

I sometimes (quite often) refer to my wife as my partner. Yes we are married and yes I loved the process of getting married. But for some reason there are times when "my wife" feels very possessive and that make me feel uncomfortable. But saying "my partner" actually describe much more how I feel about her, she is my partner is everything I do, we are a team.

So we are married and partners but she has her name. Why oh why would I want her to have my name? Besides when someone calls asking for Mrs Janssen I know I can hang up safely.

    I'd done the white dress.

Screenshot or it didn't happen :P.

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

about Cantonese goldminers in 1860s Otago. I know, since I'm descended from one of them.

I still remember as a kid knowing that asian people all had kiwi accents. It came as a surprise to meet a asian person with anything other than a kiwi accent.

if Henry doesn't get the boot

He won't get the boot. He is an employee and has rights, one of which is due process. That is, he f'd up and he has been formally censured and warned. If/when he f's up again then he can and will be fired. Until then TVNZ can't get rid of him without a lawsuit. They can, of course, take him off air but they would still have to pay him.

he never lost a chance to make a buffoon out of himself even with Helen Clark

Sadly much as I admire Helen Clark she fell short when submitting to weekly interviews with Henry. Henry was just as odious when interviewing Clark and she still turned up each week for the publicity. She was a politician not a saint.
