I've never wanted to breed little islands.

Really? I can understand not wanting to breed babies but making islands would be really cool in a geeky engineering way of course.

    An archipelago even?

Also - Baby on Board signs.

... were originally a fad because of a single incident where the mother was rescued from the car but the baby wasn't noticed and died. Logically the sign should come out of the car when the baby is not on board.

Of course when paired with the loser sticker it all makes sense.

I am not due until *March*

Right moving on to names then?

Heh we got into the habit of calling our friend's bumps, Otto.

Surprisingly none of them chose to name the child that?

Dyan, what are your views on using tooth paste when we brush our teeth, is it worth the while do you think?

my reading said that the paste is impt and the massage of the gums by the brush (soft) is also impt. Sorry sound to me like you have to do the whole business.

But you need stuff all paste

(In keeping with this illogical paranoia, I've given up practically everything I love to eat anyway,

Which Danielle, is exactly the right thing because you are controlling what you can control. And more importantly you are thinking about it which while making you a bit paranoid will only be for the good.

Exactly the same logic applies to walking school buses and driving your children everywhere. the child assault rates have not changed at all but it is something you have control over and you may as well have control if you can.

It would certainly cost considerably more than the home birth we had for our second child

There are many reasons for wanting to have a home birth but cost to "the system" should not be one of them. The problem is that one safe successful home birth is certainly cheaper but one emergency trip to hospital followed by emergency care is probably not. The final counting of the value to the accountants is complex and completely irrelevant . It is your family and your happiness that is the most important part of that equation.

On the subject of elective caesarians...

mmm kinda. Not too long ago it was noticed that more babies were being born on Friday than any other day of the week in developed countries.

It turned out that the numbers were being skewed by caesarians which were massively biased away from the weekends. And biased heavily towards Friday when it looked likely that the best day might be on a golfing day.

But in the main you are right B. There really isn't much optional about a caesarian - they are usually being done to save either mother's or child's life or both.

  • Hard News: Feminist as crazy old man,

Only halfway through reading this thread and very glad I didn't jump in earlier. Others have said much of what I wanted to say with a better voice.

But I did need to point out Dannielle that

Maybe it's one of those weird purple ones.

Those carrots are the original carrots as found in the wild. The orange ones were genetically engineered by Dutch breeders in honour of the The House of Orange. Well not really, but the history of the carrot is er ... interesting.

I also wanted to say a lot about the genetics of sexuality but you know I just don't think it needs to be said. It's the kind of thing I find interesting (see above) to think about but most other folks are more interested in treating people as humans which seems to me to be the most important thing about the discussion.

  • Field Theory: One in a billion,

It's just hard to treat anything like your complete and utter bollocks of a post with anything remotely serious.

Besides the serious responses have all been said before and most of us get tired of repeating it. You have fixed ideas and my guess is you don't really want to hear opposing views or even worse see facts that undermine your view.

Everyone sees the world through the filters of their own experience...

    QFT
My example earlier of noticing and being jarred by seeing Egyptian men holding hands was exactly that, a filter on my perception that reflected my culture. It was also something I was not aware of until it occurred.
