I'm loving that Doprah track. The autotune thingy usually gives me the screaming heebies, but there's something really musical bout the way they've used it. And it's a free download on Bandcamp.

Got my tickets to the Skeptics doco tomorrow (cheers Wendy!) should be interesting. Always loved the music but don't know a lot about the band.

I had been looking forward to BDO at the Springs; a short stroll home after a day of (over)indulgence sounded like something not to be missed. But I have to confess I'm feeling a little deflated after the first announcement. There's sooo much good stuff around at the moment so I was dreaming of something a bit more exciting than this tired and true collection of twilight performers.

Oh my what a brilliant night of great music. I was a little surprised at how much the crowd thinned out after the Picassos set; the Doo Riffs topped the evening off nicely.

I heard Wilco refereed to as Dad Rock recently, lamenting the popularity of boat shoes at their gig

I don't know about lasers and dancing girls - I prefer my dance music dirty and grimy at 3am in a poorly lit dive - but a DJ can sure work on a regular festival stage without a sweaty tent.
I was lucky to see DJ Click at Womad last month and it absolutely went off. I've never heard of him before (he's French but has spent a bit of time in Rajasthan sampling traditional beats and chants) but he sure mixes up the genres.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Noise for the neighbours,

For me, the Powerstation is simply the best live music venue in Auckland. The cash-only bar never has long queues, the sound is usually spot on, and taxis are waiting right outside the door when it's time to go home.

    Basically, it's everything Vector isn't

The memory permanently etched into my brain from that era is that of the Windsor Castle's resident act, the notorious Team Policing Unit.

Yes Lake Okataina is indeed a treasure. I've been fishing and walking around there for over 25 years on and off, and every time i visit it's just as breathtaking as the first time. Now they've opened up the Western track for mountain biking ; it's rated a grade 3 but it's very steep and rutted in places.

I biked the Western Okataina track from Lake Okereka to the Okataina Outdoor Education Centre last week. The swim in the lake afterwards was heaven!

OK to be fair that is the proposal.
We'll just have to wait and see what the finished article looks like, but I can't help thinking that it will be akin to keeping the facade of the Queens Head Tavern while bastardising the surrounding landscape.
