I never have used recreational drugs

Can you just clarify whether that includes legal psychoactive substances like alcohol and caffeine? Remember the laughter when the UK proposed to outlaw *all* psychoactive substances, and the horror when they did?

Family Fist is concerned about violent behaviour? Talk about the worm turning, whatever happened to "god given right to punch children in the face"?

  • Hard News: Dirty Politics, in reply to John Farrell,

“Kiwibuild debacle” – sounds like you have swallowed the National party line on this

The rule is that any government programme that succeeds is obvious and what the opposition would have done were they accorded the respect they desrve; and any programme that fails is a complete debacle, entirely the fault of the relevant minister (who should resign) and also symptomatic of the failings of the government in general.

(insert National, Labour or whatever as appropriate).

The above pretty much summarises what is wrong with modern parliamentary politics. It doesn't matter how good an idea is, or even if it was longstanding policy of the opposition when they formed the previous government and all that remains is to pass the bill they introduced to implement it, now that it is those morons in charge the bill will be opposed and if possible voted down.

It's as much that there's no useful tagging or threading, so I can't just follow, say, "Russell Brown's considered public posts", or "discussion of {post on Public Address}", I have to accept "everything Russell posts" or "anything tagged public address" and good luck with that.

It doesn't scale. I could in theory follow one or two people who tweet multiple times a day, but I have roughly 500 RSS feeds... multiplying that by even 10 twitter posts each turns it to garbage. Setting twitter to "only show posts, no replies or mentions" barely helps.

I don’t know how it all overlaps with insanity as in the criminal justice system.

It doesn't, the legal system is inherently incapable of recognising its own insanity.

the Public Address System party is over

Yep. I believe all the cool kids have taken to twitter or other antisocial media and I just can't be bothered. There's just no place for reflection let alone research, and even the better twits either vomit hundreds of tweets a month or retweet all sorts of stuff that I don't care about. Instagram is worse, believe it or not.

Sadly I have to use twitter for work, because some of the tools I use are only supported via twitter. Which is a whole different problem.

the police will not be allowed to pull someone up who is known to have a mental illness, and detain them just because.

So the mental illness is a get out of custody free card that the rest of us don't have? The legal system is full of pretexts that allow the plod to arrest almost anyone any time they like. The fact they don't is "discretion" and allows things like the hugely disproportionate rate at which Maori and poor are arrested compared to, say, all the dope smokers in suits along Lampton Quay.

    Religion trumps chemistry

Some people's religious views trump reality in general, to them that is the essence of faith.
