  • Legal Beagle: Practical considerations,

Insofar as the party list goes, given the recent poltergeist activity, I should imagine the deck chairs are currently being rearranged on that metaphorical Titanic.

  • Hard News: For the kids, if nothing else,

However, this 'ends' nothing. Al Qaeda isn't a centralised hierarchical organisation, is a network of decentralised cells, and moreover, Afghanistan is still a hellish quagmire of ethnic and religious rivalries. Hamid Karzai's government is corrupt and still doesn't control the whole country. Added to which, the West may have just made him a martyr for his cause, and combat and fatalities may now escalate. And while I can't blame the Yanks for getting cathartic over the death of the architect of 9/11, what about bin Laden and al Qaeda's assistance in the Taliban's bloody repression of the Hazara Shia communities in Northern Afghanistan. Some mention would have been nice.
And I suppose this means Obama will get a second term and the Democrats might regain the House of Representatives due to mission accomplished...

  • Legal Beagle: Practical considerations,

One could argue that given that Hone Harawira is seeking a democratic mandate from his constituents, though, he has far more legitimacy than Dr Brash, who can't even be bothered to stand for Parliament, And at least Russell Norman got in via the Green Party list. It'd only take Boscawen or Douglas to step aside for Brash to re-enter. Otherwise, there's the question of legitimacy as an elected leader to dog (...) ACT between now and November.

  • Legal Beagle: Practical considerations,

To change the subject to the other insurgent party leader for the moment, should the Electoral Act 1993 be modified to prevent the undemocratic prospect of an unelected person becoming leader of a parliamentary party?

  • Cracker: RIght On.,

Er, no-one seems to be asking whether the Donald or John Banks *could* win Epsom for ACT. It's an urban liberal seat- look at the yes vote on the belting referendum back in 2009 and the fact that the only sitting MP that was defeated was that bent old duffer Richard Worth. Christine Fletcher and Rodney were quite liberal on social issues,, until Rodders had an attack of the Mad Populist Gits,,,

Goodness, what's that noise? Presumably the centre-right falling into the gender gap that might've just reopened, considering what happened in 2005...

  • Busytown: A new (old) sensation,

Perahps we need 'mashed up' NZ classics with added zombies, werewolves, vampires or other such beings. It certainly seems to work well for Seth Grahame-Smith and Quirk Books...

They've already 'moved against us!' My home is occupied by a merciless black and white moggy who doesn't recognise the abolition of slavery occurred in 1833, because cats were never signatories to it...

  • Hard News: About Arie,

    Russell:
Ghod, how appalling! Has anyone complained to Radio Live or the Broadcasting Standards Authority about the sad old ex-mayor's latest diatribe? And incidentally, aren't assaults on someone with Aspergers classified as hate crimes, given that the Sentencing and Parole Reform Act 2001 clauses in question cover disability in that context?
