  • Hard News: It's not OK to just make…,

Well I for one have been known to disagree with the Owner
And in all truth people who disagree with the general view do tend to get hammered

But (and we PA people know what that indicates) I think Ralston is way off the mark when it comes to the "It's not OK " series of ads

Great series that are hard hitting and I feel are right on the mark

    End of story

  • Current Status: Holidays,

    Agree about Flanner
On the holiday theme went to "Fleur's Place" at Moeraki as we went past this evening
Fleur does have a querky sense of humour, or it may have just been happenstance but last time I was there i did clean up a seafood platter for two by myself

I ordered a baked Brill and when it arrived it covered the plate but oh boy was it a big plate. This was a plate big enough for a turkey
Quite a few gasps around the room when it arrived
I said to an American lady who commented that at least it wasn't one of those 48oz steaks they eat back home
I only had two scoops of the home made icecream to follow
    Wonderful meal, wonderful company

Islander; is it possible your brother was there, I see him around my home town and have talked to him and have been told that he is, I guess a conversation on whitebait would get to the truth of the matter

  • Up Front: The Home Straight,

Check out the wallabies in the park in Waimate, take some bread and they will eat out of your hand. The females have a joey in the pouch at this time of year which is sort of cute
The butterflies in Dunedin are very good especially if you hit a cold Dunedin day......all four seasons can and do arive in Dunedin in one day
If the weather is good a trip out to Riverton when you are in Invercargill is well worth the time

  • Up Front: The Home Straight,

I learnt to drive in a 59 Ford, a hugh thing you could have landed a plane on, 60 mphs in second gear, do the ton no problem
It still lives some where near here but I haven't seen it recently

First car owned was a 62 Anglia, apparently a classic car
I then had quite a run of 1100s and a Maxi which put me off English cars for life, always dripping oil and blowing heads
Then a seried of Falcons/Fairmonts, fantastic for the open roads and hills of the lower South Island, probably my favourites

Now, having overcome an anti Japanesse feelings a Honda CRV, nice but just a car. Next maybe a Lexus RX 350, the best of all worlds I hope

  • OnPoint: Thank you for holding. You are…,

Don't talk to me about queues
Tried to contact the Inland Revenue yesterday, after much buggering around entering numbers etc was told there is a 45 minute wait

  • Up Front: The Home Straight,

    Nice writting Emma
I guess for any of us living south of Christchurch that stretch of oh so boring road has memories
Our sons all went to Otago so the way south is much more familiar now but my university days meant I knew that raod to well

But I do remember the lifting of heart when you reach the rolling downs of South Canterbury, home at last

  • Current Status: Holidays,

New Years day was spent helping shifting two sons into their new flat in Dunedin. we have been doing this for 10 ten years!
Not every year, I must admit and this was the first time they have flatted together

Nice flat, centrally placed but up two flights of 35 very high steps, facing the mid day sun on a hot, hot
    Dunedin day .......nightmare.....mid day mare

Three trailer loads (we also shifted an absent flat mate, who owned would you believe a set of exercise weights!)
I doubt if they will ever have another flat up stairs, they were left in no doubt of our feelings on the matter

Good news was it was just up the road from the Speights Brewery so we did top up from their free water (there is always a queue filling up from the supposidly super fresh water) and the boys shouted us some ** Speights Summer Harvest **beer

I quite like fruit beers and this has a nice subtle apricot flavour Central Otago touch.......certainly hit the spot but then anything brown and wet would have done

Islander I was comtemplating a Mac, my wife is a long time user but you have quite put me off
PS love the whitebait recipie and I have printed it for the next big feed

  • Random Play: Ring out the old, ring in…,

When the PA readers realised that Labour would not be returning to the Treasury Benches there was a great wailing etc

The same advice was; don't panic, it has all happened before, the sky will almost certainly not fall, shit happens and don’t worry

The important bit is don't worry

  • Current Status: Holidays,

I think you are being overly sensitive

"But they wouldn't even mention that much if she were a farmer or office worker."

When it comes to death they would and while Mellory was going about her lawful business it was a risky business if it involved climbing into strangers cars (in Christchurch for f**ks sake) late at night
A terrible business (her death) that seems to keep repeating in Chch, what is it with that town

  • Hard News: The Interesting Party,

Nice work Russell, it has been a busy year for you and you have handled it well

    How dare Morgan Nichol write

    "Public Address -- Fewer Wankers!"

"Yeah, I don't post comments that often, but let's not make a big deal of it, eh?"

It is a dirty job but someone the right have to try and keep you all honest
Craig is our main man and he does such a goood job.....got to be the best comments man by a country mile
