  • Hard News: Tapped out and meanwhile ...,

What are you trying to say here? That the rest of us might be for terrorism?

Two options in WH's post - either pushing the envelope of pomposity, or stating the bleeding obvious for the sheer ironic hell of it.

The link to the unfailingly excellent Chase-me-ladies should be a dead giveaway that it's plainly the latter.

  • THIS JUST IN,

For the purposes of public safety they've already met their goal by arresting the lads and taking their guns. . . . I imagine they do strongly believe they've helped the public interest with this inadmissible evidence which convinced them, if no one else, that these lads were serious about using the guns illegally.

Meanwhile, somewhere other than Planet Lad, a female filmmaker was among those arrested (and later released), not to mention a considerable number of females whose rights were pointlessly violated in the co-ordinated publicity stunt of nationwide raids.

  • THIS JUST IN,

Sharples pointed out that the reputations of Tuhoe and Maori (let alone NZ) have been seriously damaged as a consequence of this. The examples he gave of overseas media sensationalising the Maori terrorist threat were astounding.

Nice post Sara. Characterising Sharples as having 'jumped the shark' during this whole now-seen-to-be-largely-farcical beat-up is manifestly unfair. I can understand something of the guy's sense of betrayal and frustration.
If anyone's done a fonzie in all of this, it's Clark.

I'd mandate compulsory visible daylight, and clock displays on machines at eye-level.

Don't know much about casinos, but I'll bet that clocks anywhere are a no-no, just as they are in shopping malls. And for a similar reason.

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

Another nice thing abut PAS is the general lack of self-regarding web-punditry.
If you feel the need to featherbed that kind of thing it's not my problem. Again, should you feel that bomber needs to be cut some slack due to his current troubles, fine. It has next to nothing to do with my post.

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

It's a refrain Bomber's been playing ever since this story broke - 'trust me, thanks to my down-with-the-activists cred I have inside information which I'm not at liberty to reveal' - all the while invoking the bogeyman of talkback/Leighton/Laws - effectively, the kind of people that Bomber is energetically fast-tracking himself into becoming. It's pretty much all about Bomber, and has bugger all to do with the stuff us mortals are largely in the dark about.

If they'd been soy milkshakes it would have been a dastardly plot to hook kids on meth AND make them gay.

It's going to be a long 12 months or so, isn't it?

When you're attempting to define anarchy, 12 months is nothing.

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

    I apologise to all if I occasionally sound a bit cranky . . .

. . . if I sound cranky it's because I've spend the last couple of hours achieving very little, and my post-work drinkies have fallen through.

I myself am often crotchety it's only to be expected.

    It's full moon.

  • Hard News: Mint Chicks win everything,

    Rich of Observationz:

I sometimes think that NZ has no executive branch of government, just a legislature and an autonomous public service.

    Hear hear.

And in the Muldoon era there was only the Gang of One. I remember the feeling at the time Muldoon sent the army into Bastion Point in a ludicrous display of overkill. The sense was of a weak, scheming and desperate government.

Just lately I've been having that feeling again.
