  • Capture: Spring is Like a Perhaps Hand, in reply to Lilith __,

    and

when I read about NZ On Air funding a Wellington crew to make a film about the Chch earthquakes, and I’ve been reflecting on...

    - How cynical I have become...
    - How nothing much surprises me anymore...
    - How The Eastern chose the right cardinal...
    - How much the Hope and Wire premise sounds like Treme...

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Scary Young, in reply to Graham Reid,

keep a song in yer heart...

Don McGlashan’s uplifting but also politically barbed speech. An important message at this time.

    Way to go Don...
    I liked this bit:

When songs work, they put down roots deep into culture. If someone from the next century wanted to know what life was like right here, right now, they'd go straight to the music that we're making and listening to, and the music would tell them. It's that cultural value and power that songs have that we come here every year to celebrate.
There's political power. The power of music and songs to change things.

especially in light of of this piece about Phil Lynott's mum stopping Romney using The Boys are Back in Town at his rallies.

Kind of a strange song for a Mormon to choose I'd have thought...

Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Dino's bar and grill
The drink will flow and blood will spill
And if the boys want to fight, you'd better let them

    We are amused...

360 degree panorama from the Mount Victoria lookout

I used to live in a house just under that transmission tower at the 360 start, not the white installation visible but on the other side of that hill about level with the mans waist... but also level with the landing planes...

  • Hard News: Reviews: #NZGT and the Herald,

    plaintive pleas unheard...
The Herald on-line (and probably off-line, too) reports that Chchch people with legitimate grievances about their treatment must have started legal proceedings against that paragon of compassion...

...Gerry Brownlee has reportedly hit back at criticism from quake-affected Christchurch residents by calling the complainants moaners who have time to "buggerise around on Facebook all day".

Being charitable I believe they just simply meant "complainers", and I haven't quite got to the bottom of how despicable I think Gerry Brownlee is...
