Hard News: Friday Music: When there were…, in reply to
the hills are alive...
Black Sabbath kicked off with a huge burning cross on the hill that totally freaked out the Christians...
I remember thinking what tools Black Sabbath were - when they arrived (by helicopter IIRC) there was an announcement along the lines of "any girls who wanted to make them feel welcome should go round to the backstage entrance" - Fairport Convention were way better than Black Sabbath, as were Dragon...
I think Corben Simpson's big song at the time was "Running to the Sea"
Luckily I'd seen Ticket at Levi's Saloon a coupla nights before heading back down to Ngaruawahia, as Black-bloody-Sabbaf blew up Eddie Hansen's guitar amp (using it without permission, too!) so they never played.... -

I reckon all traditional medicines should be given the same treatment.

Wring cycle...
Everybody who is anybody was present.
OMG a rare sighting of Nicky Wagner (well her back) out pressing the flesh in her electorate...
No mention was made of her being there in the paper, she really is the invisible MP, mute as well it would seem, she makes no noise or media ripples... -
Hard News: Women and their representations, in reply to
Stitched up...
....you might enjoy cosmocking
After reading the entertaining sub-Burroughsian Jezebel cut-up piece, I was struck by the apparent dearth of sewing and patterns in the current range of women's mags.
Somewhere I have a box of those marvellous Burda patterns on tissue paper with 3 garments overlaid in 3 colours - high art!
Were we to conjoin Needlework, Jezebel and Cosmo we might end up with a lively 'cut'n'tucker' take on cock-smocking - though it would almost certainly be curtains for the bloke!
Bloody frill seekers.... -
Hard News: Moving from frustration to disgust, in reply to
We devalue what we do when we value one learner’s ability, or one educator’s knowledge over another. We destroy the very value we claim when we attach a cash amount to it.
Surely something wrong here!
No room for well remunerated CEOs?

Hard News: Moving from frustration to disgust, in reply to
In almost every policy area this government disgusts me. Public broadcasting? Give it to Rupert Murdoch. Climate change? Do nothing. Public transport? Lie about the benefits…and build roads. Asset sales? The price of power went up a year ago to pad the balance sheets prior to sale. We’re *already* paying for the assets we still own. It’s all grotesque.
I stumbled on this article of interest*, when following a link about the 'Residential Earthquake Repairs Grind to a Halt ' - probably best not to read either one, (or this Press one ) as they'll just make you more angry....
* Action for Christchurch East published an article in June 2011 examining Naomi Klein's book 'The Shock Doctrine'. Her work investigates how publicly owned assets are thrown into the hands of big business and emergency responses are privatised during the chaos synonymous with natural disasters, war and economic turmoil.

"Before Hurricane Katrina, the school board had run 123 public schools, now it ran just 4. Before that storm, there had been 7 charter schools in the city; now there were 31. New Orleans' teachers used to be represented by a strong union; now the union's contract had been shredded, and its forty seven hundred members had all been fired..."

Bat urine...
...will John Key come around and deliver it personally or does one have to pick it up from an authorised body?
Unfortunately current Government is not of the Golden Glow variety, more of the Toxic Shock variety.
Key is concentrating on Beta Blocking at the moment to quell the Fight-or-Flight response triggered by any brush with his ongoing Snake Oil peddling...
Many members of Cabinet may be used as an emetic in an emergency.... -

The Melissa Lee Memorial Off Ramp...
”bridge & tunnel” types
You can blame Steven Joyce and his insistence on having off ramps, otherwise they would all have to carry on to South Auckland (or Takapuna)...
