  • Hard News: A New Hope,

I suspect that hardware may come to the publishers' rescue, by which I mean that a really good post-Kindle mobile information product could work. Mobile communications services have always been able to sell the contents of their walled gardens, but the experience has largely sucked.

Word. Just back from o'seas where I spotted a kindle-like player in airport shops. It wasn't a kindle at all, but I think a Sony or something or other competitor.

The experience sucked; when you clicked the button to turn the page, the page went into this kind of double take before 'turning' - very weird. It would kind of 'blink' twice, then have a short period, then turn the page. Bad design.

  • Island Life: Bye, bye, you peculiar guy.,

I've no idea who/what Pickettywitch were/is, so naturally enough went to Youtube.

My only question, is the blonde, who I presume Polly Brown, channelling Sue Kedgeley, or the other way around?

  • Hard News: What to Do?,

He is seldom my favourite journalist but Sean Plonker redeemed himself on Morning Report this morning by giving Larry Baldick a right bollocking.
    (Note: deliberate mis-spelling this time)

One swallow does not a summer etc.

In 1995, there was a referndum in Quebec on whether it should separate from Canada. The question didn't say "Wanna be our own country mes amis?" but actually said:

"Do you agree that Quebec should become sovereign, after having made a formal offer to Canada for a new economic and political partnership, within the scope of the bill respecting the future of Quebec and of the agreement signed on June 12, 1995? Yes/No."

I voted oui on this. :) Just to be difficult and because I got pissed off with the ROCs (Rest of Canadians) who flew into Montreal to hold parades.

  • Hard News: What to Do?,

The last CIR in when, 1999? had not one, but six different questions in one statement/question - which was something to do with capital punishment from memory - all I really remember were the six questions - which one was I voting on?

This CIR is no better. IMHO it requires a Masters in English to correctly interpret the question, so I suspect the bulk of voters will either look to a 'leader' for guidence i.e. church groups and the like, or throw it in the recycling bin.

  • Hard News: Mt Albert Old-School,

One of the failings of lefties is always to assume that certain classes of people will always support the left: students, workers, ethnic minorities. Time and again, these assumptions are proven wrong, but the bitter truth does not make them go away.

Another failing I've noticed is the arrogance of some which about matches the arrogance of some on the right.

For what we suffer these people I have no idea, but its not a pleasant experience.

Apparently John Key thinks a mandate is Rodney Hide having coffee with John Banks.

    Starbucks, Gloria Jean's, or Instant?

None of the above. It was when Rodney helped Banksie put out cat food for the moggies of Vicky Ave.

  • Island Life: A week in the life of that…,

Naughty messages to one's girlfriend is embarrassing for leaders, but hardly a crime.

I'm struggling to process the distance from reality needed to use the word "girlfriend" here.

    Word.

    double word.
