  • Hard News: A business most feral,

I took that as a serious critique until I read this:

Last night we had a tasting, put it to the back of the fridge and drunk everything else first.

I thought it was a completely fair comment. One should always drink the good champagne/wine/beer first, and then move down the quality scale, consuming the worst last. By which time you're sufficiently munted not to notice/care.
Bonus tip: If you don't eat all day, you'll get munted even quicker. Which will make you funnier and wittier than everyone else at the party. (Even if you're drinking alone)

    from Jones' PR:

“My colleague Housing Minister Maryan Street has already announced a revised Welcome Home loans scheme and a shared-equity plan to assist first home buyers which underlines this government’s commitment to the future.

That to me is the real BS. The proposed 'Affordable Homes' scheme is a lottery, only 1,000 people will get one. Imagine if you're 1001 on the list - do you wait another year for the next allocation? And if you do, what happens if your income/circumstances improve slightly? Will you still be eligible?
And if you don't choose to wait a year how do you feel about those people ahead of you in the queue who 'got' an 'affodable home'? Do you feel happy for them, or sorry for yourself? Bitter?

heh heh ... sorry - it's a bit early in the morning to be making inflammatory statements like 'what's your point?' when you've obviously made some! I coulda made my point without that comment ...

Fear not Jeremy, Labour have proved themselves masters of winning the hip pocket vote. It won them the last election, and they'll no doubt pull another winner/bribe out of the bag this election. This is not a dig at Labour, they only learnt while in opposition from what National also did. With the air seeping out of Key/National's party balloon I would not be surprised if Labour 'win' (albeit a narrow coalition, with the Greens, Anderton, Peters, and the Maori Party) in September.

er, what's your point Neil? If one must make a choice shouldn't one always choose the __lesser __of two evils? Bush had to make a choice and he chose the eviler of two evils?

I/O You are trying to wind me up right ?

Not really, kind of. I was trying to make a serious point in a light hearted manner.
a] the 'awareness test' asked us to keep our eye on the white team and count the passes made. At the end we're given the answer and asked if we also saw the moonwalking bear. Good on you for seeing it (must be those years of cycling) but I didn't because I was asked to watch the white team. To me it's one of those BS Gotcha! tricks. I really really really hate those psychometric tests because altho' I can always spot the 'right' answer I can also spot the 'but also' answer.
b] my comments about the bear-as-metaphor-for-cyclist was fair tho'. Smart cyclists make sure they're visible, especially at dusk/dawn. Wearing black whilst riding at night is so cool it's stupid. And yes, I've seen it. Curse the Grey Lynn/Ponsonby fashionista!

But these are minor points, so let's get back to the main topic of debate ...

    It's awesome

I'm not so sure Graeme, that test was pretty easy. I correctly counted 13 passes made by the white team, without problem. I might even have spotted the moonwalking bear first time 'round too - if that had been asked. But I was only asked to count how many passes were made by the white team.

Still, I've had to do sillier tests when applying for jobs.

But the moonwalking bear did make a good metaphor for cyclists. I notice the bear was not wearing any reflective clothing, just black fur, whilst intermingling with a swirling mass of black. Still, I suppose it's okay to be camouflaged if you're a bear. Not so good for cyclists.

Partly true. I was at Prego today. But the other bloke wasn't.

You can't wriggle out that easily RB -- I've just got back from Prego and the staff confirm that Ralston was in earlier this week with a blond(ish) woman called 'Janet'. That's your drag name right?

Anyway International Observer is the guy bringing race into it , although that doesn't make him a racist. I love white people.

Eh? When did I bring race into it? By mentioning the Maori Party? Anyone can join the Maori party, you don't have to be Maori ... just as you don't have to be working to join the Labour Party ... or a thespian to join the Act party ... speaking of which -- I think we're back to Theatre.
