  • Hard News: The Minister's Brain Has Exploded,

    Careful what you wish for…
When the call went up to Bring back Buck
who’d have thought it would just end up
being passing practice for the politicians…
…and what with the slow-running, constant
interference and ball dropping they have turned
a ruction into a mauling, even though they are
ostensibly on the same side McCully has created
a scrum against the ACC, when a concerted push
    forward was needed…

We are the refs, there is no TMO in the gods,
let’s Red Card National for playing the man!

  • Hard News: The Minister's Brain Has Exploded, in reply to Russell Brown,

I don't often say this, but Cameron Brewer was right last week.

He could work on his delivery though, his totally adversarial approach, at this time, does him no favours - and if he was so convinced he was right last week - why didn't he go to the media then?
He struck me as Auckland's Aaron Klown, er, Keown...

  • Hard News: The Minister's Brain Has Exploded,

    we are warned...
Another case of National rushing half-baked, ill-thought out plans through under urgency, leaves a bad taste in the mouth, and a great insight to how their second term would pan out, were we collectively mad enough to re-elect them...
A government of bullies - and we all know cock-up bullies turn into frogs, not princes!

  • Field Theory: Straight for the throat, in reply to BenWilson,

    Quiet days in Cliche...

“it was a game of two halves”

and now a new one for the associated celebrations:
    “A game of two wharves…”

  • Field Theory: Four Years Ago,

    the usual suspects...
In amongst all McCully's finger-pointing, Dave Dobbyn must be relieved he hasn't been blamed for the breakdown of the waterfront event... ;- )

Is there a new big little slogan in the wind:
Auckland - the city of fails?

Kids and women abused by drunks, just not on, not ever.

Meanwhile the Godwits arrive back in Chchch today.
Here's hoping the F*ckwits don't return to Ak's Fanzone on friday...

    What goes around...
Meanwhile at the centre of our Solar System...*
Spaceweather starts today's posting with the marvellous sentence -
"A comet is diving into the sun today."
It seems to be unnamed - so I'd like to name it 'The National Party'
    (movie here)

*Which surprisingly, is only occupied by a yellow dwarf star (no not Rodney Hide) and not Murray McCully nor John Key, much as they'd like to have you believe otherwise...

  • Southerly: Tower Insurance Have Some Bad…, in reply to Just thinking,

    zoning out...

Brendon sounds a bit more than neglectful,
with having lost one house and two offices.

That's a little harsh, Brendon Burns is a fellow Chchch dweller and victim, a tad more empathy wouldn't go amiss, or is your point that his piece doesn't address any Chchch-specific issues.
I do agree that three of the four don't seem to be making any clarion calls or offering to lead the charge against the Government's intransigence and obstruction, they are just noting that it exists, when they are in the best position to do something, like lead by example.

    Administering shock treatment...

Government seizes control of Auckland waterfront

    Too much, too late ...
so who will run the day-to-day?
Will Dame Margaret Bazley and the Commissioners
be flown in with help from the army?
Perhaps Gerry Brownlee can be sent in
to give an insensitive shake up as well...
Paula Bennett can press gang the unemployed
into cleaning and the like while Little Stevie Joyce
can direct traffic, with a cone on his head...

It could be the '51 lock out all over again,
I wouldn't rate their ability to organise
a piss up for a foreign brewery highly

Jeez, talk about loose cannons, and McCully is
    Foreign Affairs Minister too...
Gawd help us all - hopefully this will
    help them lose the election.

  • Hard News: Towards the Truth,

    Watching the watchers...
I see John Key has announced a new director for the GCSB
Interesting to note his background is in economic and trade matters not intelligence gathering or defence.

Mr Fletcher is a New Zealander who has held senior executive positions in Australia and the United Kingdom since 1998.
He has been a successful public sector chief executive in Australia in his current position, as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland State’s Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation since 2009.
Prior to this, he was the Chief Executive and Comptroller General, Intellectual Property Office in the United Kingdom from 2007 to 2009 and Managing Director, United Kingdom Trade and Investment for three years
Mr Fletcher was the Principal Private Secretary to the Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Home Civil Service for two years.
“Mr Fletcher has extensive policy and operational experience particularly in relation to international economic and trade matters. He has been appointed for a five year term and is expected to start the role in early 2012,” says Mr Key.
