  • Up Front: What Sixteen Is,

What I do - and am- is: these are the family values, within these I will support you wholly.

My Dad was and still is a bit like that although the molotov thing....;) but I think , his family being in and around the States made him alone whereas my Mum only needed the phone for her family in ChCh, which was I guess how I moved to Oz on my own 3 weeks after I turned 16.I felt entirely comfortable. It seemed like the right thing to do, and my only regret was my not considering that a boyfriend might have been going to miss me. But that's how you learn and hopefully good comes from that. Weird thing now is I feel more mature than my Mum or Dad. But, I'm not worried because they taught me that.

  • Up Front: What Sixteen Is,

    Because I sit on them.

Wont somebody please think of the children ;)
If it's any consolation Jackie, I am sure you are the aunty that alot of us had growing up, and it doesn't make you the ogre. I think the family contributes many ideas to kids and that's what makes us good or bad adults. It seems healthy to me for all families to have an aunty Jackie innit.

Eek, the "except when it's not" was directed at Sofie's "life is good."

I wasn't suggesting death was good. Perhaps I was too cryptic?

  • Up Front: What Sixteen Is,

I was too totally freaked to think that coherently.

and it's te 70's.(no cellphone on side of road)
After a few incidents myself, I came up with a master plan, always hitch with a friend and have a "get out" code with said friend to put into action quick getoutta car performance. Never stopped hitching though.
And Emma, sometimes I think you are mature beyond your years. Maybe it's the battle scars that enlighten us also. I never had a crossbow but I think of similar experience and I know I accept a lot of my situations were very good lessons which has helped my adulthood. Without sounding curt (I hope), life is good.
Oh... and the drug thing, experimenting is fun, we were not all idiots :)

  • Hard News: Crash and Contempt,

I agree Tussock, but bear in mind that our democratic system has been questionable for some time and the TSA was not the first. I recall when the misuse of drugs act came in. Basically there is no need for any warrant now because of this act and can in many cases be used for entry, just, on suspicion of drugs.
A dear friend of mine said once (actually more than once, and then I tell him once blue always blue and then we laugh but I digress...) that, even if Scott Watson wasn't quilty the boys must have wanted him for something else, so he probably deserved it.My small point being, Is this supposed to be acceptable? How far are these laws creeping?

  • Hard News: Crash and Contempt,

As long as we get a similar discussion about whether we really want to give someone this unserious a fourth term. After all, Cullen is trying to paint himself as the sober hand on the tiller. Not seeing much evidence of it so far.

Craig, love you dearly, especially the early stuff, but sometimes, :)......As far as a similar discussion, can I just toss in $50 bucks a week tax cut does not make good economic sense now even if Mr leader of "I know how to make millions" party thinks so. How unserious do you think that sounds? Cullen may seem unserious to you, perhaps a little boring but "The cupboard is bare" is in my mind pretty accurate. The public have demanded a cut for many years without being serious about anything but personal greed and Labour saw fit to offer a token thanx to placate them. I don't see that as a problem, but now the cupboard is bare. Serious.
I struggle (with all due respect) to understand why ,(oh why) you really think this will be a party for the likes of you as you seem pretty fair to me and I do worry . And I don't want a fight. Just thinking :)

  • Hard News: Crash and Contempt,

given that we have a presumption of innocence in our justice system

That is where the line is becoming so thin.
Methinks, with technology what it is today, assumption, presumption, supposition, and MSM combined have drawn the line well before any courtroom.
I am constantly reminded of gladiators and wonder who the next "entertainment will be.
I do know of another situation where another person was grabbed by AOS and presumed quilty until after his (legitimately licensed) replica guns were destroyed. These antiques are irreplaceable, and for what?, a mentally ill tenant on the property became a bit delusional.
Also, there is nothing more annoying than having incompetent cops who don't do their homework when you are the one on the receiving end. Having been known for my ability to stand up for my human right, I gained a tag on one of my passports for "association" and cant even replace my US one that got stolen. A Seattle Sheriff told me that nobody would be stupid enough to carry it in my handbag. So when people do try and inform the public via media, it is often because they are feeling wronged. The truly guilty are pretty good at "keeping mum". Loose lips sink ships, and Lawyers cost gazillions.
