    people power...

    I guess they just don’t really care…

    OK, I'll retract that...

I just got a nice thank you from a Tony Smith, General Manager of corporate communications of the Melbourne IT group (who run Domainz) in Brisbane, thanking me for my constructive email to them, and he says they have now fixed the faults...

Chalk one up to crowd sourcing...

While I'm on a roll I might email John Key and Gerry Brownlee with some more constructive ideas...
    :- )

    Dumb aims...
    speaking of Domainz...

...they just sent me an email to fill out a survey to enter a competition to win an iPad2 - with some really ill conceived questions - like one that asked you to tick 3 options - one of which was 'none of the above' having ticked that I couldn't go to the next window until I had ticked 2 other non applicable options - <DOH!>

and then the kicker - it gives a link for terms and conditions that state that the competition ends on June 4th 2010!!!

I guess they just don't really care...

The large print giveth and the
    small print taketh away, indeed...

  • Southerly: Tower Insurance Have Some Bad…, in reply to Roger Lacey,

“Empathy in all that we do. We walk in the shoes of our customers and strive to do the right thing by our customers and ourselves.”

or possibly (and much more cynically) they take the shoes off the cold dead feet of their customers, thus avoiding buying their own - and this 'Right Thing' they talk about is behaving like a far right National politician, and haven't ACT been very quiet about this whole earthquake and consequences...

  • Southerly: Tower Insurance Have Some Bad…, in reply to Hebe,

Roger Sutton is empowered to override any council planning he wants.

I'm sure he can in the short to medium term and possibly longer, but I doubt that it will be in perpetuity - the Christchurch City Council has already demonstrated that it can forget the lessons the of the past - and twenty years down the track who knows what they'll want to do or change...

...encouragingly I see in The Press today that Roger Sutton is keen on house relocations where possible - and AMI have said it may be feasible - so maybe Sutton can instigate or encourage a subdivision that will consist of "heritage homes" like David's rather than the hideous Stepford environments that are the norm.

...meanwhile EQC has put a hold on repair work that was due to start about now in the White Zones - or as one commenter aptly renames them - The Wait Zones.

Love hertz, if you're going to San Francisco...
Watch your devices - from July The North American Electric Reliability Corp is going to experiment with the US national power grid:

The group that oversees the U.S. power grid is proposing a change that has the potential to disrupt electric clocks in schools, hospitals and other institutions, according to a company presentation obtained by The Associated Press. It may also mess with the timing of traffic lights, security systems, sprinklers and some personal computer software and hardware.

Normally the power stations condition their power to a frequency of 60 cycles a second, a frequency that many old clocks use to maintain their time. With the new standard, or lack of standard, these clocks will stop keeping time properly.

    Revelatory stuff Joel, much appreciated.

    Ain't it though!
The two reports he references appear to have been wilfully ignored by City Planners and Officials. I'm surprised that Mark Yetton hasn't, justifiably, taken one of his appearances in TV interviews to say "I told you so!", but I think he has more class than our all elected representatives put together...

Sorry Ian, see and read, you got there first!

no need to apologise, all part of crowd source reinforcement - and of course further proof that great minds think alike... ;- )
