You know that "disgusting" picture of the little naked girl? I did find it a little unsettling and it took me a minute to figure out why. It was the way the girl was posed so no genitals or nipples were showing. Somehow that seems to imply that she is aware of the "forbidden" nature of those parts of her anatomy in a way that a little kid often isn't.
Not disgusting at all though.

I once saw the 'Don't Mention the War' episode of Fawlty Towers at a Picton Backpackers full of Germans.
They took it very well, considering. More bemused than amused though.
I remember that playing while we had a german exchange student living with us. My "sister" was fine with it and thought it was at least a little funny but the truly hilarious thing (at least from a 17 year old view point) was the contortions my mother went through trying to stop her from watching it
I don't tend to go for the pop culture quotes too much having a not-too-reliable memory for such things and a fear of misquoting foolishly but I was once very successfully picked up with a Hitchhikers-guide reference.

I've read up a little on birth issues with Down's babies (yes, alright, I can't help myself). I'm a bit more shocked than I was. Nearly half of Down's babies have heart defects, and some require heart surgery immediately after birth.
A mum at my kid's Playcentre recently had a baby with Downs. She was not a well baby at all to start with and had several days in NICU with a lot of tubes in her.
I'm seeing Palin getting some flack for choosing to carry a Downs baby to term rather than aborting which, as a pro-choicer, I find appalling. Surely we should be able to rise above our opinions of her stance on abortion and allow the woman her own choice in the matter.
Is it known for sure that she knew the diagnosis before the baby was born - Downs isn't always picked up before birth (the above mentioned baby's condition was a complete shock to her family) especially if the mother chooses not to test for it.

When I was at uni (just a wee while ago now) I never started writing essays before 11pm as that was the stage when flatmates and visitors were no longer around to distract me and I could get a clear run at it. I found that a really productive time. One holidays I fully went with my body clock and fell into a pattern of being up until 3 or 4 am and sleeping until just after lunchtime. I felt FABULOUS but it really, really didn't work with the real world. I think I have the double problem of being a night-owl and also needing a lot of sleep.

I miss the night too. When we stay with my parents Jamie and I often sneak out for a walk after the kids have gone to bed which is the best holiday treat. I have friends who get all worried about me if I try to walk home at 7pm in summer.
My body and I have compromised on an 11pm bedtime and 7.30ish wake-up and so long as I have least least two cups of coffee and some tea generally gets me through the day with over 50% of my mental capacity functioning. I know I used to be a whole bunch smarter when I didn't have to see mornings though.

One can only be thankful that modern Very Loud Toys are often badly constructed (therefore, easily broken "accidentally on purpose") or require a dozen car batteries and someone with an advanced engineering degree to put it together.
Unfortunately experience tells me that the battery life and strength of construction of a toy are directly proportional to the annoyingness of the noise it produces.
Why yes my children do have a childless aunt.
