  • Hard News: But seriously, drug policy,

Hone has good reason to be wary of Cannabis. He points to the devastating effect on people in the North. Criminal gangs, young unemployed, dysfunctional families, all somehow undermined by cannabis. Ironically if cannabis was decriminalised then the market for selling an illegal drug would diminish.
So Hone is OK by me to be more concerned with decent food for kids. But sooner or later some brave political party, like the Internet Party will accept the challenge and cause the decriminalisation.

  • Hard News: Privacy and the Public Interest, in reply to Hebe,

"Where has that gone? Who is going to hold Key to account for breaking the Cabinet Manual rules?"
He will go ahead untouched because he can. Since he can and does ignore unpleasant realities now and it seems that the Electorate is uncaring he just presses on.

    "Item (4) Terms of Reference:
identify and report on any other issues relevant to the above matters, to the extent
necessary to provide a complete report on those matters."

Mai Chen said in an interview that there should be an item tacked onto any TOR that leaves open any further enquiry by the Judge.
Not sure that item 4 does that. Seems to me that it closes it down and we suspect that no evidence will be found to harm Key/Collins because this enquiry will not go beyond the flimsy 2nd person chat.

  • Speaker: On the upland road, in reply to Allan Moyle,

Thanks Allan. Passed Kelvin Smythe's column on to others.
    Kelvin's opening quote:

‘Other minister’s offices began feeding information to Slater, such as Gillon Carruthers, press secretary for Education Minister Anne Tolley. ”I got those stats out of Tolley’s office, seems Gillon has worked out that feeding the whale might help,” wrote Slater in early 2011. “Yes, they should have all worked it out now, “Lusk replied.’

How far and how low do the dirty tricks go? Setting out to destroy schools and Principal's and thus the kids just stinks.

  • Speaker: On the upland road,

What an interesting approach on Campbell Live to actually get to hear the leaders of all the minor parties in spite of there being 8 to speak. Refreshing after the shout-fest. 7- 8pm

  • Hard News: Show some decency, in reply to simon g,

Thanks Simon. Listened to Sean Hughes.
I think that this question and all the others alleging Dirty Tricks, are so huge and so beyond our trust as citizens, that even National supporters are bewildered. How do we ordinary folk express our concern? The leadership for investigation and exposure and correction should not be the prime the role of the Opposition during an election.
Surely there is a Government body charged with the power to step in with or without complaints having been laid.
It is just too enormous for ordinary people like me.

That was some sort of satire - wasn't it Malolm? Imperator Fish wrote it didn't he? I cannot imagine Judith having the cheek to put her tongue in it.

  • Hard News: We can do better than this,

I wrote to Jim at the Panel yesterday pointing out that he let claims of "the Left do it too," pass un-challenged.
Today he started to ask Farrar to, I think, to name these nasty Left bloggers but Farrar just plowed over with his spin of justification - for a long long time.
I have written to Jim again with the request that he challenge "them."
( We do know that some comments on the Standard are unpleasant but the bloggers?)
I wrote also to David Fisher, who I respect, and asked the same question re Left bloggers. He did reply and said,

"I thought it was fairly clear to anyone with an internet connection. I did ask Slater about the other blogs - he cited The Standard and then referred to posts about himself. Some of those are unpleasant but - for my part - I can't begin to see a comparison.

    Thanks David.
