  • Hard News: Yr Enemies R Stupid,

But she may have committed the fatal mistake of believing her enemies are far cleverer than they really are.

Underestimating human incompetence: the common trait of conspiracy theorists. That said, while it is true that the passing of time has made the project's authors seem not so much nefarious as stupid, for the most part they're doing pretty well, and not just within the sphere of government. Kristol has just landed a column in the New York Freaking Times.

Here's to young Bob and brave mums and happy outcomes. (And not, it's not an excuse to drink at 9 in the morning.)

And a good day to you.

    Lovely post, Simon.

  • Speaker: The Ultimate Flip-Flop,

Everyone in entitled to their own opinions

Laudable position except that you reduce everyone's opinion but yours to the following:

you (and many others around these parts) think it's a kid's show made up of Tory sock puppets. The wingnuts on the right are equally convinced it's a coven of tree-hugging, bone-wearing PC Commie dykes

    and that's, you know, dishonest.

  • Speaker: The Ultimate Flip-Flop,

Well, giovanni, I wish I could reciprocate but that would be ever so slightly dishonest.

Not sure where you're going there. But I find your litany of "look, you idiots, this proves that the Herald is unbiased", as if any of us had ever claimed that the paper was actively colluding or had pledged 100% positive coverage of the great leader, more than a little disingenous. The odd critical editorial, the occasional moment of sanity from Ms O'Sullivan doesn't a balanced coverage make.

  • Speaker: The Ultimate Flip-Flop,

Wait a mo', you mean The Herald isn't the propaganda arm of the National Socialists after all? Bugger.

Now that part 2 of the Herald's unauthorised hand job is over and done with, and yes it was just as embarassing as the first, it's good to see that you're sticking to your guns.

  • Hard News: Wild is the Weekend,

They have a thrilling physical genius, but physical genius doesn't win professional sports encounters at the very highest level.

Sure, I mean look at Lomu. I always said he wasn't a good professional, and he certainly was no gamebreaker.

Has to be the silliest statement I've read all month. All players in any sport have a range of skills, very few have all of them. You don't remember Maradona for the marvellous headers, do you? Likewise somebody like Nonu may not have the kicking game of Mauger, but neither did Mauger have the running skills of Nonu. You can say that we're developing too many players in the same mould - say, big and bruising - and that makes sense, but to say that Nonu is not a professional is bizarre.

  • Cracker: How about You You You?,

__My daughter saw the zebra and yelled "documentary!__

How about pointing at the Gorilla and saying "Phil Collins" ;-)

At the cost of sounding like an overly-protective parent, I'm determined to shield her for as long as I can from knowing what a Phil Collins is.

  • Hard News: Foreign Affairs,

I imagine the Ford loss is all down to the bad financial times

Renault just posted a net income for the first six months of the year of 2.2 billion dollars.

  • Hard News: Foreign Affairs,

How exactly do you reduce government income (i.e. tax receipts) without reducing government spending, again?

Er... improve economic performance? That's what's been happening in the last few years, no? There was an increase in the tax bracket for people earning over 60k a year when Labour first came in, and to be fair there has been quite a bit of fiscal drag on top of that, but the tax receipts have gone up way beyond those factors, simply because of our economic performance. Whether that was a cyclic fluke, or was helped at least in part by smart reform and investment, is of course an entirely different debate.
