  • Hard News: More party pill palaver,

Perhaps instead of fining people who are caught being stupid with substances, the court could direct them to attend compulsory drug education courses that cost (and paid for by the offender) an equivalent amount? Directed to their particular thing.

They do that in some US states, and it gets farcical, especially when it's framed as "treatment". What malady are you actually "treating" in a 22 year-old who got caught with a couple of joints?

Along with the legal challenges from atheists being compelled to complete 12 step programs where one of the steps is to accept the existence of a higher power.

  • Hard News: A little patch of turf,

I suspect that unlike our local constabulary (cf. the Kahui case), the UK plod prefer the "arrest 'em all & sort 'em out down the nick" technique.

  • Hard News: Copywrong,

So would that mean my company, which disables auto-run in group policy for security and anti-viral reasons, would be infringing (on a couple of thousand PCs); or does intent count? Are CEOs in the firing line for corporate breaches of the law? Could the head honcho be looking at jail time? Considering how IP sensitive the company is, that could be very ironic.

  • New Herald site,

Nope, I still haven't managed to see what the new Herald looks like, just times out (eventually). They might as well ditch the advertising, its not making them money if noone can see if, and if they can't see the site at all, that's even worse.
The Stuff one is definitely an improvement though.

  • Hard News: Remember where you heard it…,

Better be a smartphone for that kind of dosh!! For less than a grand in kiwi money I can find myself an Imate Jamin, which does GSM phone, camera, and everything a pocket PC will do. Including replacing any Black(crack)berry you might be toting.
