I am glad you appreciated it. Hoped you wouldn't be too embarrassed.

  • Hard News: Christchurch: Square Two,

This whole thing feels like a great big game of Snakes and Ladders where you alway's seem to land on another bloody snake.
I did manage a laugh the other day though.Whilst going through my old VHS tapes & DVD's I found this gem. There is a much younger Russell Brown 1/3 of the way into this.

That is a sacrifice I will just have to make then. But I will have to take a look out the window now to see if I can spot any of them.

If Martin "curtain-twitcher-in-chief" Van Beynen's fawning drivel-piece on the Clinton visit is any indication of the mood of the local media,

I can continue to feel justified in my refusal to read that particular paper. My partner read parts of that article out to me whilst we were out having a coffee on the weekend. The level of my embarrasment of the article was about equal to your Mum getting naked at a barbeque and dancing on a table.

With respect to Bob. Auckland had a turn at allowing complacency to let the rot back in, so it is only right that we should have a turn as well.

    Awesome work Graham.

  • Up Front: Day Five,

I have to say that getting out there and contributing to the cleanup does make you feel better and takes your mind off worrying about the next aftershock. My job has me helping isolate the power and repairing the underground cables to get buildings up and running whilst isolating those in danger of falling down. Everybody that is contributing in such a way is doing a terrific job and the genuine words of appreciation from the public are extremely rewarding.
I have to say I was extremely impressed by the skill of the 23 Tonne excavator operator that plucked both a painting and a crystal chandellier out of the 2nd floor of one muntered building on Victoria St today. To return to the owner.

  • Hard News: Little pieces of a big picture,

Well and truly numbed to the quakes/aftershocks now. Rang home after the 5.1 wiggle earlier and my 5y.o didn't turn away from the DVD she was watching but did comment that "that was a fun one".

    a "niche pocket of Linwood".

Now, that is what I call full use of real estate agent speak! That must mean that it is an area that closely borders another suburb ( not Philipstown, Bromley or Aranui) and that it's ratio of abandoned supermarket trolley's per km is less than 5.

Gawd I didn't realize that having a vegetable patch and compost was working class. Even having a backyard is surely not working class. They're meant to have a shared concrete lane with garbage cans, aren't they?

No, it is achievable if you are happy enough to move to "Ganglands Linwood". $100k got us some grass in 1997.

Sorry, you are right about courgettes. Those suckers grow like mad. Thank goodness for a good Zucchini Pickle recipe. (just like the Anathot's stuff.) Yum. Mesclun mix from seed is also relatively painless.

  • Up Front: The C Word,

The number of people I see getting into management then complaining to me about the hours, the stress, the pressure, is something - and enough to make me NOT to want to seek out management positions.

When you have tasted Olive oil and can only seem to grow tomatoes and silver beet in your backyard vegetable garden successfully. You are also now up to year 5 on one income (which was a good one as a D.I.N.K) You have essentially moved as high as you possibly can in you present position. You seriously consider it.
