Hard News: The Big 2012 US Election PAS Thread,
"I think [Jack Tame's] work, like that of all the NZ correspondents, has been pretty good"
You're speaking out of professional courtesy, right? Presumably you don't watch any of it. I used to think Tim Wilson was some kind of Nazi that they had sent to the US to get rid of, but no, it seems they are all like that.

The cock-up theory of history vindicated! Perhaps the old story about NZ starting WW2 a day early after mistaking the time zones is true after all. I can imagine similar disasters - Blair: "Iraq? No, no, I said I was going down to the Park." Napoleon: "I only said I wanted to meet my Portaloo." Etc.

Hard News: Keeping Austin Weird,
"The city of Austin, Texas, is unlike most of the rest of the state ..."
Austin is the home of Stratfor, so perhaps it isn't as unlike the rest of Texas as it boasts.

There remains the distinct possibility that lives could be lost as a result of all this, as Assange and his source have acknowledged by witholding such a large chunk of material on security grounds.
"The distinct possibility that lives could be lost" - crikey, who wants that? Except that when it was Valerie Plame's contacts, and it was a matter of making the case for a war, rather than the case against it, then no-one seemed to care so much. I do, really and genuinely, admire your gentleness and principles, Russell, but it does seem that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been conducted with inhuman cynicism for domestic political calculations, for no other reason than to enable American crooks to raid their own Treasury, and in this case being even-handed just isn't going to cut it.
It's not as though Assange was making this stuff up.

Hard News: The Munter and the Munted,
I'd like to add something about the dialogue on Outrageous Fortune. It crackles. It's interesting to listen to. It's written for characters with thoughts and a point of view. It tells you more about what's happening than just what's happening. Packed To The Rafters, please note. The actors do great with it, too.

I can't say that I share your sympathy with Edroso's point. Other people may have discovered warblogging, swift boats, tea bagging and so on - I discovered Salam Pax, Talking Points Memo and Digby. People aren't stupid and ignorant and hate-filled because blogs told them so, it's because that's what they were already. Edroso comes across as a journo with professional jealousy issues - that at least is understandable in human terms but is hardly cause for a recommendation.
