Hard News: A night on the town with Mr Slack
Public Address won the NetGuide People's Choice Award for "Best Blog" last night. Many of you will realise that it isn't the first time this has happened, but it's still nice to be recognised in a public vote. I had been studiously laid-back about it all, but it did occur to me as the announcement drew near that I'd be a bit bummed if we didn't win.

Oh, and wish us luck for the Qantas Media Awards tonight …
Had to sign the code of conduct in blood yet?

Congratulations to you and all the other contributers on PA, Russell. There would be a big hole in my day without you guys.
Yeah way to go.
Now, if last night was Billy Joel, what's tonight going to be? (No-one mention Westlife, OK?)

Good luck for the Qantas Media Awards tonight.

It'll be The Who.
Stroppy, occasionally violent old buggers, and there's not many of them left.
The wagyu special was excellent, thank you.
Congratulations (and I mean that in all earnestness) to Don Christie and Catalyst IT. Stuff cleaned up - no fewer than three awards including the grand prize.
Next year, I'd like to see the nine blogs that make up PA be entered seperately and see what happens.
Or perhaps there should be an award for individual blogs (the work of one blogger) and group blogs (the work of several bloggers).
Also, I would like to extravagantly demand some NZ awards for bloggers.
Congratulations PA. Well deserved, again.
Thanks David, but I think credit goes to online editors of all these sites (stuff, NZH, Scoop) who frankly do an amazing job in an industry that is only *just* being recognised.
Must. Do. Some. Work.
Eventually, I needed feeding, so I dragged David off to Euro and treated us to the wagyu special
What, even after Metro "blogged" about it? And my quotation marks are to emphasise my distaste for sites that claim to be blogs but take forever to moderate comments, edit out links to other site (even if the other site is admittedly ridiculously petty and stupid), or other sites that don't even allow your comments to go through at all if you've got quite a problem with the myths that they are perpetuating.
Wow that's a big rant for this early in the morning. I suppose my point is that I really admire Public Address for opening up System and for the ways in which you respond, so your award is very well-deserved. Congratulations! And I echo Robyn's comment that NZ needs some blogger awards...
Thanks David, but I think credit goes to online editors of all these sites (stuff, NZH, Scoop) who frankly do an amazing job in an industry that is only *just* being recognised.
Yeah, that's what it's about - recognition. It's not a passing trend or some niche thing that only nerds pay attention to. It's popular and it's ordinary now and that's what's important.

Congratulations y'all - especially you Russell for geting the whole shebang, um, banged.
Deservedly won, a goody among the goodies of the kiwi interweb.
(and I mean that in all earnestness)
That's important.

One of the biggest things on Stuff right now is a poll - Playboy Playmate of the Year: Hot or Not? Very important vital stuff...

Congratulations to PA in general and you in particular Russell, and of course I just have to mention that biggie.co.nz won best entertainment site of the year for the fifth year running, a huge achievement.
Playboy Playmate of the Year: Hot or Not? Very important vital stuff...
Already? I hadn't even got round to voting for whether Christina Ricci is hot or not.
congrats! again...
now, are you absolutely sure you can't loan me the one from 2005? because... well... because.
Great work! Like others, I suspect, PA has become an important part of my life. I have even recommended it to a stray MP or two I have come across.
Paul Smith is putting up a story about our Japanese adventures, on kiwiboomers.com, this week (May 15). Take a look if you are interested.
Actually, now I'm back in the house, I hope I wasn't too churlish about the awards. I find it hugely encouraging that independent web publishing ventures like Vorb, Bookabach, 24/7 Girl (which beat Bebo! in the youth category) et al can show up and succeed the way that have. They're all community stories too, which is great.
No bouquets at all to Facebook, though. Surely there was someone in New Zealand who could have turned up to accept the award it won?
Anyway, full list of winners and finalists here.
