Cracker: See More on 3

As I've said before, I generally keep pretty quiet about TV matters, because of the whole glass houses thing, but it’s hard not to be just a teensy bit cynical about a story I saw on TV3 news last night, so I feel justified in throwing it open for discussion.

Without wishing to piss in your pocket Damian, One's news and current affairs services increasingly look like the sensible option. I'm not sure what they're thinking at 3 right now.

OTOH, how many damn cameras did One have at the funeral of that nice lady from South Auckland this week? Was she Prime Minister or something?

TV One’s (and to a lesser extent the NZH) coverage of the Americas Cup is starting to get close to the depths of the 1995 and 2003 campaigns.

How can a news bulletin urge you to stay up until midnight (on TV1) and “wish the boat on”??

The whole thing can’t be taken seriously anyway

Though that's rather like saying if you're going to catch an STD in a knocking shop, crabs are slightly preferable to genital herpes. Wouldn't it be preferable if the tarts (literally) cleaned up their act or found another line of work? AFAC, both Three and TVNZ really need to lift their game - and re-establishing the line between editorial and self-promotion would be a small but useful start.

The Dealettes have their own MySpace page (of course)!

I don't reckon they feel exploited. They are more likely taking cameraphone pics of themselves on the giant billboards around town and marvelling at how awesome they look.

The trailer for the news featured a clip from the 'offending' show as well.

I have to admit though, I was sitting there thinking 'this is NOT news...but, my word, aren't they magnificent...'

Didn't make me watch the show concerned though. Hell, I'm not a total moron.

Without wishing to rain on you parade...

One News' endless promotion of "Dancing Wth The Stars" was more gratutitous, if you ask me. Not sexually so, but in terms of painting promotion as news.

Yes, TV3's been dropping the ball this year in terms of news quality - no doubt - but One News is still worse, I think.

My 3 news low point: Monday, I think, on Nightline Carly Flynn introduced one story by saying that due to editorial & time constraints, they had to choose between doing a story about the queen's birthday honours, and a duck. "Guess which one we chose!" (cue story about a duck). Apparently there was no similar dilemma about them showing Paris Hilton getting slagged off at the MTV awards, which they hyped extensively. LAME!

Silly thing to complain about really. One thing life - and a good cleavage - taught me early was males of almost any age just can't drag their eyes up often enough to hide their leering. Its funny.

Much more to the point is the low levels of, dare I say it, 'fair and balanced' quality current affairs from both TV organisations. Seems to me there has been a downward spiral ever since Tuku's undies . . .

My pick for the TV3 follow-up story:

After several desperate phone calls from the reporter, Bob Clarkson / John Tamihere / Michael Laws says people complaining about Deal Or No Deal need to "get a life", and in case we're a bit slow tonight, helpfully explains that "it's PC gone mad". Paul Henry might say it as well, but that's no use for TV3.

Followed by a debate on Campbell Live with a female academic.

All with cleavage footage, naturally. (Or maybe artificially)

TV News is just the promo for what's on that night/week & Nightline always has a taste of soft porn to send the boys off to bed with.

Deal or No Deal - is soft porn & I suspect no-one here is would watch anyway.

I'm not sure the aspiring models/presenters deserve the vitriol. Their Mums are proud of them I'm sure. The pimps and producers are another story.

A little latter on as with The L Word on Prime - in that same time zone as Bro Town should be.

That is merely because they suffer from false consciousness. The success and the crime of the patriarchy is that the exploited sex class is taught to experience pleasure from their exploitation without learning its name. No doubt there were slaves on plantations who gloried in their visits to the big house too.

Now if you'll excuse me I have things to deconstruct.

Threadjacking! Sort of. Since we're talking women sporting cleavage, here's one of cleavage sporting what may be a woman.

2nd photo down....

BTW - exactly who is she anyway?

Speaking of seeing the logs, we managed to get our hands on the TV3 logs from the switchboard since the show aired and can only find 7 complaints in total about the dresses. There was one person who even called in to say thanks.

Actually, my real problem was the bland beigeness of the women and their cleavage. If you're going to have a bunch of women standing around doing nothing all looking exactly the same, I'd rather have some Robert Palmer girls.

TV3 were having a blinder last night. A scant two articles after (or maybe it was before, I forget) the Deal or No Deal advertisement was a piece about a new Westcoast brewery that was "anti-PC".

From the man who brought you Good Bastards Beer (I see no reason to add the apostrophe or the correct hypen) comes a beer company that won't have any of the POLITICAL CORRECTNESS of New Zealand's major breweries. Ummm, like Tui? Or Export Gold? (both DB I believe). Or Lion Breweries with their very PC red-blooded ads.

Also this new anti-PC beer is against the pansy-men at ALAC. Look all the problems with alcohol are caused by "a minority of loutish youth". Cue shots of (presumably) good bastards drinking plenty of free beer before (presumably) driving home.

Ah, this would explain why multi Olympic medal winner (and about to compete in Bejing too) Amanda Beard was on Letterman the other night to promote her spread* in Playboy

*No actual spread. As Hef famously pointed out: unlike in Penthouse, Playboy girls keep their legs together. Ah, so that's what makes it okay then...
