I don't understand why these decisions ( structure of Auckland Governance) will be rushed. It's off to cabinet for a decision on Monday. As I understand it there is to be no time for public consultation on the Model arrived at by Peter Salmon.
The chance to get a representative council is going to be much more difficult than at present.
I'm surprised there hasn't been more comment, but I guess it does take a while to fully digest an 800 page document.

sorry now = know. I need to preview.

Like Steve I agree with Hilary. And again like Steve I would like to now what Paula Bennett thinks. The portfolios she holds have the ability to impact upon the lives of some of the most vulnerable in our community, it would be good to get an honest account of her views.

I'd have thought that as bonobos are matriarchal it wouldn't be quite so good for a bloke in that setting. Unless of course you were going to come back as a female .

Emma your post is frank and fascinating as always.
I have been to the end year concerts put on by the Auckland Primary Schools in the town hall, a different selection every night. Some of the most heart warming performances, are those by the children from the Kelston School for the Deaf, who sign to some of the songs. It's really great to see how inclusive this sort of event can be.

Cakes that is....

Your cake is so impressive. Much better than the uber-mum who couldn't part with her penguins.
It gives me ideas for the future. If there any cakes for the future.
We've already had all the 21sts, and the two we did ourselves, were much more appreciated than the professionally done first one...

In a lot of community meetings I attend, the words at the beginning and end, are sometimes in Maori and are karakia, but on other occasions are prayers. In some instances they are quite evangelical, by my standards anyway.
This seems to me to be religion by stealth.
I have seen neutral reflections used, and they seem to focus the groups attention.
On another tack, I was somewhat surprised that John Key made no attempt to use Maori at Waitangi. In this day and age most people can at least manage tea koutou, tena koutou, tena kotou katoa.

I thought that with the changes which come into affect in April those on less than $24,000 will be worse off.
Of course for those on high incomes their taxation decreases.
I personally feel this is not equitable.
Those on low incomes spend all their earnings - those on high incomes have more choice.

I may be wrong but don't the tax cuts affect those lower wages most. In this climate it would seem unfair to increase their tax burden, but not their income.
I understand the comparison with Australia for minimum wage is just under $18 NZ.
