Look, do you want to have a bunch of killers and pervs on the loose or not? You smug intellectuals won't be smiling when your children are BRUTALLY SLAIN (photos of the scene on p3).

  • Hard News: High Noon,

Sorry to hear about Bob. His contributions stood out to me.

Well, that was a quiet, bourgeois little protest. Should be glad that you were sharing stage with the Tamils (tho' they didn't seem to have much to shout about, as well...)
Why o why are there no more of the big noisy demos (anti-SIS, Vietnam, FOL, hell, even the abortion ones) of the past?

I think it was all the more effective for being composed of people who are usually slow to take collective or public action, and clearly unused to it.

In my (perhaps skewed) experience, ICT has disproportionately many cynical individualists who don't care for or believe in a common good, as anyone who's tried to unionise programmers knows. If you can get them to rally around a cause then something big is afoot.

  • Hard News: Blackout Bingo!,

At 175 cm I'd have to weigh just over 100 kg to be a BMI of 35. I'm pretty sure I could in fact sit in a single plane seat without inconveniencing anyone else.

The dig about Rush being obese was indeed at sly reference to the news article about the woman refused immigration visa yesterday. Given the problems of using BMI as a measure for individuals (rather than populations) I wish they could use other health measures that tell you more about a particular person. BMI was never intended to be a health measure for one person.

    Solid stuff, Mark.

Also, my confidence in the perspicuity of our officials is improved.

Just to muddy even further, did they look at exceptionally poor trading skills? Maybe it causes risk-taking behaviour, which in a trader will produce extreme outcomes at either end... it depends what you call "successful trading".

Would Rush Limbaugh qualify for immigration? He is an obese drug addict after all.
