  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

(Craig Ranapia: please do not visit above link as rumours are couched in dismissive terms that might cause tenseness, plus you seem to have at least as good a source elsewhere.)

And some of it's just plain silly. There can't be anything in Troopergate because she, um, said there wasn't. And those people she sacked? They totally deserved it. And even if they didn't, that's just politics.

    And this:

    59. yes, she did finally turn down the money for the bridge. Yes, that meant changing her mind about it.

... even ignores the source (a conservative blog) it links to as a cite. Even the blog notes that she didn't "turn down the money" for the bridge, after campaigning on getting it built: after Congress got antsy about the bridge itself, she kept the money and used it to fund another boondoggle.

The author pretty much leaves out anything that doesn't suit his case. Which is hardly unusual on either side, but I don't think I'd be using it as a reference, put it that way.

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

And Palin's credibility as a fiscal conservative is zero.

Oh cool. I heard the Alaska Dems' vetting documents on Palin were good, but I hadn't had time to go through them.

He has a killer last line:

In so many ways, Palin is a contemporary Republican: no abortions ever but mounds and mounds and mounds of debt for the next generation.

But it does no good for we Sullivan-reading types to know this. The Obama campaign has to make this an issue in a very blunt way.

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

How does choosing Palin as a VP candidate add authenticity to the view that victory is in sight in Iraq?

    It doesn't.

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

Is that tacit acknowledgement that Simon isn't really a journalist ? :^)

Snark! No, it means he's reporting on the encounter between the journalists and the public servants.

..as for Fran she is obviously privy to some interesting high level business dialogue and when she reflects on this she is quite readable

She can be great when she's doing that -- she gets the inside word.

But this week's effort was so far off.

  • Island Life: More billboards,

And complaining that these billboards don't go far enough -- which, somehow, I don't think John Key is losing any sleep over. :)

Quite. But being a filthy state socialist lickspittle thingy, he would say that ...

  • Island Life: More billboards,

    Oh cool.

The creator of the Nats' billboards is a Libertarianz-style objectivist.

He even has a blog on the masturbation-tips website SOLO Passion, where his fellow utopians are bitching about it all.

    It's genuinely funny.

  • Hard News: At home with the art-hackers,

it should be the rianz music awards.

It used to be called that, but it's hardly a name to conjure with. And unlike ARIA it's not even a word.

Before that it was the RATAs and before that the Loxene Golden Disc Awards. That was a good name ...

  • Hard News: Go Us,

I think she will get a pass on the post cover up because she intiiated her own investigation and came clean.

Ah, Sage. You're a true believer, aren't you?

The excellent Mudflats blog had all the details long before the veep announcement.

The legislature got wind of the issue and wanted to investigate. Palin steadfastly insisted there was nothing to investigate, there had been no improper calls or pressure applied, etc. The legislature said, well, we're going to investigate anyway.

So Palin got her own AG to do a quickfire investigation and that came back confirming that there had been tons of calls from her office but -- guess what!? -- none of it had anything to do with Palin. Even though she'd been completely obsessed with having Wooten sacked. It was just some guy in her office acting completely on his own. Of course.

I'm sure Winston Peters would have greatly appreciated the chance to investigate himself on electoral funding matters, but that's not how things are supposed to work in democracies.

And now ... having repeatedly said she'll co-operate with the official investigation, she's implying she won't co-operate.

  • Hard News: At home with the art-hackers,

That statement my statement is ridiculous is in fact ridiculous.
b nets? nominated by stations, artists are not part of that process? ring a bell?

Or try the Qantas Media Awards, the Montana Book Awards, etc, etc. The idea that it's a "fault" that people have to enter to be considered is just odd.

The b-Net nominees are basically nutted out and negotiated over by the station PDs, and they consist of things that they playlisted. I can't see how that could really be transferred to a national industry award And, as I said, if it was, you'd be complaining about how a small cabal was picking all the nominees and the little guys couldn't even enter.

you may like the 'blowing your own trumpet' thing and that's totally up to you, but for me, me saying how great I am doesn't quite have as much meaning to me as someone else saying unsolicited that I done good. maybe that's just me,

    Yes, it probably is.

you younguns, always wanting to tear down the old and build it new,
what's wrong with acknowledging faults and fixing the current system?

To what earthly end, though? How big exactly is the group of artists that would meet awards criteria and is actually interested in doing it, but doesn't want to join IMNZ, or pay a $100 entry fee or even enter in order to be considered?
