Actually ask any parent - all children are genetically encoded to do the exact opposite of what parents say but - they do respond to peer pressure in huge numbers especially in the younger age groups.
The NOF series is still 5:1 male but the female characters all seem to be anti hero figures and some like Shavaughn are at least aware of sending herself up.
On the positive side I like that most of them are musicians across lots of genres and they might be junior celebs to some but most have a degree of obscurity to them.

Should have said online website campaign better than TV
-
I think it is younger and I my 7 year old is impressed. I'd suspect the target is teens or younger. The online side of Not our Future is possibly better than the the side.
There is that "S" word again.
I don't hear smug at all. I see role models that kids know about saying something useful. There is a fair bit of posing but that goes with the territory.
I try not to watch any TV at all so its always a shock to see something wit a bit more cut through. I think NOF is mostly on C4 which makes sense as well.

On the effective ad front I do like the
Not Our Future anti smoking ads.
The Truth campaign in the US annoyed more than a few of the right people Truth
Not our future also seems to be pitched about right and should definitely be continued.
But am I off topic or are we all done?

My goodness a few weeks away and what a treasure trove of goodness I miss. I'm going to try not to mention Gaza, Visconti* or even trees in the bottom of the garden.
In the South Island the Bellbirds are incredibly loud as I have found on on my annual visits. I love waking up to birdsong. Tuis are great too. (anyone want some 4m high Yucca's?)
A few months after Ferrit launched, a PR person asked if I could have a look at the site and perhaps write something. So I had a look, and it was a weirdly desolate experience. I couldn't work out why I'd use this website and what I wrote wasn't positive.
I never read that review but couldn't see any reason to visit and the ads seemed to be aimed at the smart arse segment least likely to care but in 3 years I never managed to get my mouse over there.
From various sources the maths is apparently $15m in year 1 and $1m per month since then so somewhere between $30 & $39m in mostly ad fees as far as I could tell.
The only surprise is that it took 3 years of budgets.
Now for some brilliant numbers. In case we weren't paying attention.
1,169,014 visits to Public Address in 2008, and 3,558,983 pages served
Congratulations Russell - and Happy New Year to all PAS readers - that is a great score for everyone.
(* Just for the record the doco "My Voyage t Italy" puts Visconti into context very nicely and is worth watching every year or two - it is very long 3 or 4 hrs but something of a master class in film history.)
Last but not least - Neil Young.
I recall Karyn Hay quoting an interview with Neil as in her top 10 of worst interviews of all time. From what I can remember Graham Reid had a similar experience. I sure hope he has a good night.

Exactly - what I was trying to say.

At the risk of stating the obvious - surely the key issue (sorry about that pun) the differcnes between
1. Support (voting) for National party policy
(is NOT the same as) support for
2. Disregard for parlimentary & other democratic processes
I suspect that Mr Key is genuine wants to do his best but there are many in the National grouping who have less altruistic motives.
The ongoing competition between those wanting to make up for lost time as they see it and the those wanting to do the right thing is the crunch point.

any takers for - The lesson of the Great Depression is
Every time I look at the writing on 1929 there seems to be about 4 theories on what the lessons were depending on your taste in economics.
I understand lessons and causes are different but if there is no sign we are even close to any agreement.
The causes of the Great Depression are still a matter of active debate among economists
WTF
causes of the Great Depression
I like the debt deflation theory the best.
Lesson - there is no such thing as a free lunch / debt sucks.

Also this post which includes Tizard regarding Internet copyright law might offer some clues
Probably been over egged on this site (s92) stupid bills/ laws do tend to annoy voters. The earlier references to this about getting into bed with big music were a bit cryptic but perhaps this closes the loop.
As has been pointed out elsewhere, several submissions were against the termination of a person’s Internet connection based on the accusation that they might have infringed copyright.
Not a vote winner for the weightless economy.

A bit late but regarding Tizard -
3,695 electorate votes went to the Greens in Auckland Central which split the vote.
Denise could be a future MP for Auckland Denise - Green candidate for AK Central
I did hear some sugestion that failing to get Tizard in was a failure of tactical voting in Auckland Central because too many Greens voted for the Green candidate who could never win. There were plenty of grumbles from existing Labour Party voters unhappy with Tizard and her personal vote was clearly down.
electorate results for AK Central 2008
I also did a calculation of the party votes for Green in AK Central and it was 15.4% which wasn't a surprise but clearly some discussions between the Greens and Labour about tactics might have been useful.
