Polity: In defence of the centre, in reply to
The question for the NZ left’s leaders is thus not what policies they favour just now, but what they’d do about a banking collapse / house price crash / Fonterra bankruptcy etc.
They could do worse than to look to Iceland for a least worst solution.

If McCully gets done for corruption, what probability he’ll take a number of his colleagues and apostles down with him, whether by accident or design?

ts not based on an assumption but my observation of this post and his inglorious excursion into racial politics.
Any idea if David Round, Michael Cox, Stephen Franks, and Max Shierlaw are still involved with the Blue Team?

For Tim Groser personally, I suspect he has a seat at somewhere like the World Bank at stake.

Its a corruption not just of language but of the people who espouse such views.Such people never like to admit to being wrong. They would rather see people suffer than admit to being Wrong. Its narcissism gone mad.
Narcissism underpinned by survivorship bias. And I just want to shout, "FUCK, YES!", to how the late, great disability activist and comedienne Stella Young summed it up:
And that quote, The only disability in life is a bad attitude, the reason that's bullshit is because it's just not true, because of the social model of disability. You know, no amount of smiling at a flight of stairs has ever made it turn into a ramp. Never. Smiling at a television screen isn't going to make closed captions appear for people who are deaf. No amount of standing in the middle of a bookshop and radiating a positive attitude is going to turn all those books into Braille. It's just not going to happen.

When I listened to this One in Five piece on social bonds on Sunday, I couldn't help thinking of the victim-blaming policy that's been proposed in Britain, where unemployment threatens to be reduced to a psychological disorder. Basically it can be summed up as "believe in yourself, or else!"

A small group of us ‘borrowed’ TVNZ film gear back in the day to make the first Enemy clips which played on Radio with Pix. Damn we were proud of those!
Nice! I love our readers.
Werner Herzog got his start by ‘borrowing’ film equipment from the Munich Film School. And Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols apparently played with a stolen guitar.

I think it even seems to be how they change their minds on politics, for the most part – voting out rather than voting in.
So to a large extent the old mantra "oppositions don't win, governments lose" still stands? In this case, good oppositions still need to regularly set traps for unwary governments.

The Prime Minister’s weird, mendacious Morning Report interview.
He holds the rest of us in contempt.
Each time Susie had the blowtorch on him, he kept shifting the blame on to “the previous government”.

You can also add the glaring hypocrisy of subsidising the already loaded, when Main Street keeps being told the cupboard's bare.
