  • Richard Wain,

You've got half an hour to report on sport, this is major world sport event

Half an hour? Sport starts at 6.40 on both 1 and 3, each runs about 14 minutes, ad break then however long the weather gets. God I hate the weather. And health stories. But I digress...

Yep, Federer's the greatest. Don't think he'll win Wimbledon but how good would that be?

  • Tom Semmens,

Well next time he does point out that the pass to Gareth Edwards for the opening try was forward.

I contend the video referee needs another option if he decided to award a try.

    "TRY"
    "Build up was worth it"

  • Edward Siddle,

That might have been a good option the day Jeff Wilson got tackled by George Gregan back in 1994 (in the first ever night test the All Blacks played, and on a weekday n'all!) when about to score. the buildup, and indeed the whole 2nd half, was 'worth it'.

as for 1973, they seemed to let all sorts of things go back in those days. that game was riddled with uncalled knockons.

  • Simon Poole,

In other news, the All Blacks side was named. Messam is at 8, and to be honest unless he has a shocker I don't see anyone else in the squad that will take the spot from him. Kaino was poor in the position and played his best at 6, Read would be there already if they thought he was a better option, and Thompson will be at 6/7.

Why they picked a team with four specialist blindsides, I don't know.

  • Simon Poole,

Just resurrecting an actual sports thread instead of going off-topic on the manly thread:

Lelia Masaga has been called into the AB's as cover for Rudi Wulf.
    Link.

I'm wondering if they'll try and switch Corey Jane into the starting XV, but suspect they'll keep him on the bench as utility cover. They're running out of backs, and having a specialist wing in the reserves doesn't give you a lot of options late in the game.

  • LegBreak,

When was the last time Corey Jane played on the wing anyway? His versatility seems overstated too.

Tamati Ellison can’t be too far away now.

  • Simon Poole,

Yeah, our supposed depth is really turning into a bit of a joke. We've got world-class players in a few positions (when they aren't injured) but there is daylight between them and their closest rivals. Our 1st XV has picked itself in recent seasons for a reason.

Tamati has proven that he's a safe player at S14 level, but struggles to nail down a starting position in the same jersey twice - I guess the fact that he can play anywhere from 10 out works against him. Is he really ready to step up to test-level? Mind you, Henry put Bryn Evans on the bench, so anything is possible.

  • Simon Poole,

Well, at least Henry is consistent.

Masaga on the bench, Jane to start.

He actually thinks that Jane is a better wing than Masaga? Rokocoko prefers the left, Masaga played on the right all season, surely this isn't a difficult decision?

Somehow, I don't think the ball is going to spread much further than the forwards and inside backs. Of course, with Thompson and Messam in the loosies, it doesn't have to go much further than that to do some damage.
