  • Russell Brown, in reply to Samuel Scott,

However, it would be fair to say that many APRA members and RIANZ affiliates do appreciate it.

Which was the correct answer :-)

Getting geeks and artists in the same room is a mild obsession of mine. Y'all have much to offer each other.

Better still, geeks who are also artists.

  • Rich of Observationz,

Getting geeks and artists in the same room

It would be nice if the geeks and the traditional IT industry would get in the same room. Or even have a discussion in adjoining railway carriages or something?

  • Ian Dalziel,

    Dumb aims...
    speaking of Domainz...

...they just sent me an email to fill out a survey to enter a competition to win an iPad2 - with some really ill conceived questions - like one that asked you to tick 3 options - one of which was 'none of the above' having ticked that I couldn't go to the next window until I had ticked 2 other non applicable options - <DOH!>

and then the kicker - it gives a link for terms and conditions that state that the competition ends on June 4th 2010!!!

I guess they just don't really care...

The large print giveth and the
    small print taketh away, indeed...

I have used . info for my new website, which has a nice neutral ring about it.

    Where do I sign up?

    people power...

    I guess they just don’t really care…

    OK, I'll retract that...

I just got a nice thank you from a Tony Smith, General Manager of corporate communications of the Melbourne IT group (who run Domainz) in Brisbane, thanking me for my constructive email to them, and he says they have now fixed the faults...

Chalk one up to crowd sourcing...

While I'm on a roll I might email John Key and Gerry Brownlee with some more constructive ideas...

  • Geoff Lealand, in reply to Jeremy Andrew,

Jeremy: it is a different site www.cinemasofnz.info and very, very much at a development stage. Eventually, I plan for it to be a site on independent/arthouse cinemas around New Zealand--their location, history, audience catchment, unique features etc. Haven't had the time to develop it very far but I have been able to visit most cinemas in the South Island.

  • Sean Murgatroyd,

I don't think there was a complete absence of creatives - I talked to plenty, but I do recall that one of the streams set up to talk about valuing "content" as a way to support creatives which mysteriously turned into a discussion around "if you get your company's profit by selling a 99c app, so be it," which left me dumbfounded - kind of like suggesting selling mailboxes is the way to make money out of running a (physical) newspaper. Sure it might be, until everyone has a mailbox, or somoene else invents a cheaper mailbox. Either way, it is hard to see "valuing content" in that model, unless we are valuing the creative touches of the app designer; I've seen some menu systems I've been inspired by.
