  • Joanna, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

The acoustic tour is targeted at affluent middle-aged types from places like Thorndon and Oriental Bay, who wouldn't go to a gig in a downtown pub.

Oh yeah, you've just totally described me in a nutshell there!

I would have gone to the Bodega gig if I'd heard about it. And I thought I was okay at keeping up with what's on.

  • Lilith __, in reply to JacksonP,

Oh thanks Jackson. I like it!

I’m always trying to interest people in The Magnetic Fields. It’s the sort of thing you either love or hate.

    Brackets are not your friend.

    The Magnetic Fields.

More listening required. I might like them. ;-)

Haven't seen this video before. It turns me... Oh right.

    Photo-shopped?

  • Ian Dalziel,

    Life in one cord...

    We have airplugs!
    I prefer earplugs.

No, no, the air plugs are
    for the air guitar...

    You'll be bop deluxe...

Oh good, another discussion about bands I have never got. Keep your drear. If you can't bop around frenetically to it, I'm not interested.

aahh, don't worry, The Bats just take over the audiences' motor control, you will not be able to not dance...

...and if you are at the Bats gig in Dunedin tonight, or Chchch tomorrow, (or Wgton & Auckland next week) look out for the souvenir sets of Bats poster postcards, and the new album on vinyl, too! (working on a mini-book now)...

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

    I prefer earplugs.

I look forward to ears wide open at the Civic tonight. Eddie Izzard is in the House. I am going to laugh.

  • JacksonP,

    Beware the Evil Twins.

It's kind of thematically appropriate for Nunvember.

Love them. Here's an example of Stephen Merrit's excellence.

    Oh, lovely!! Thank you.

    Love them.

Well that makes 2.5 of us. Enough for a NZ fan club? ;-)

Anyone who can't dance to The Bats can't dance. So there :-).

And to celebrate ChCh re-opening, another glorious Bats song with a video preserving part of the town we lost in February...

  • Ian Dalziel, in reply to Lilith __,

here's one for the Doctor Who (& Torchwood) fans:

was it just me, but did any one else think the Torchwood finale was a bit rushed and once over lightly - while setting up the premise for a US sequel...

another glorious Bats song with a video preserving part of the town we lost in February...

    oh you're cherry pickin' now...
Though don't ya reckon that Block of wood start would make a great ringtone...
    :- )

NB: Paul Kean posted footage (that I can't find now) from that same intersection , minutes after the February earthquake - the old ANZ bank bldg was rubble with the (now missing) copper dome upside down in the street - sadly I think someone died in the World shop on the ground floor.

However, evidence would suggest that the converse is not necessarily true. :)

  • JacksonP,

I Wish I Had an Evil Twin

I’m liking them more and more.

In related news, I just listened to the lyrics of The National song, Conversation 16. It’s… disturbing?

But I’m more compelled by this Maya Jane Coles remix of Little Dragon.

  • Lilith __,

Loving the dancey Bats videos. And some with bonus local scenery! If I'm not mistaken, Boogey Man was shot by Lake Pearson and around Craigieburn?

And thanks, Danielle, that is very reassuring. :-)

  • Lilith __, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

It’s just as well YouTube has so much John Barrowman, to ease the Torchwood withdrawal. :-)

re: that post-quake footage of Lichfield and High St, I’m pretty sure I know the one you mean. I’ll check my email archive and see if I can find it.

  • Jackie Clark, in reply to Biobbs,

I would argue that there is dancing and then there is ...........dancing. But then, we all like and what we like, and I never took to Flying Nun and her progeny.

I am expert at both sorts, and I endorse The Bats.

And really, if you think The Bats are dreary, you have not heard The Bats :-)

To be fair, apart from videos, no I haven't. But I can think of none of the Flying Nun music that I ever connected to. It's just one of those things.

They're not miles away from your brother's stuff. Certainly compared with the harder end of FN's roster.
