I wonder. Was this done under re placement insurance?
Or maybe it was CERA? Crane Evacuating Residents Abode.

About now is the "what the fuck have I done" phase of the process. It gets better, promise.
All is not lost: the Dunsandel Store/Cafe sells a decent pie.

Is Piko still trading? Thought they lost their building?
-
Hebe, in reply to
Piko moved to Stanmore Road for a year or three. The old part of the Kilmore Street building is down; the new part survived, just.

Seeing that roof swinging in the air makes me very, very nervous. And David has left us in suspense for two hours now....
I hope it all goes very, very smoothly, David et al. The weather gods look as though they will be kind to you for the next few days.

Has anybody seen my house? I'm sure it was just here...
Glad to see positive progress, best wishes for the next phase.

Aaarrggh!! Way to go, David and Jen. I am most impressed with all that machinery. Can't believe I checked in exactly on moving day! I'll be watching for updates. Glad the weather has been kind this month and long may it continue ( or at least until the house is safely re-hitched at t'other end.....

When I was on the board of a primary school we got permission to shift a 100 year old hall from down the road (which was going to be demolished) onto the school grounds. They chopped it in half and put it on two huge trucks. Then realised that they had to take all the power lines down as it was now too tall. Was a huge undertaking although it only had to go less than a kilometre. But thoroughly worth it for the excellent school hall that resulted. (However, 13 years later it has been deemed an earthquake risk. Ironic.)

More than 'just' - the orphaned new remnant is now rising phoenix-like as YogaBase a joint venture between various Iyengar Yoga teachers in Chchch (including my partner Sally) - with the first classes beginning soon in early May....
...and after class you can swap your books at the Gapfiller Book Fridge just across the road! -

Great news; more life in town. Well done Sally et al.

How does it feel to come from a broken home?
-
Don't worry about what could go wrong, you've got insurance haven't you? Haven't they ???? { ; )
How exciting! -

Yes yes, a very moving and uplifting story it is - but without foundation.

This is a song for the move. Not completely about moving a house, but this band is capable of moving the house and the song has Crane Driver in the title so that’s good enough by me. One of my favourite bands. Needs to be played really loud.
ELBOW, The Lonliness of a Tower Crane Driver. -
Great stuff, David. Does the front door have to be facing in a particular direction (toward the mountains), to ensure feng shui is maintained (now, that is a load of horse poop)?
Just as well you don't have to put the milk bottles out tonight.
-
And just because this has "Hole in my neighbourhood" in its lyrics and its nearly Friday. Another one. We need powerful sounds for this mammoth task at hand. :)

I keep checking back to see if there is another photo. I'm as hooked on this house move as Game Of Thrones.
-
We are home eating Sushi. Estimated move off the section = 5.30pm.

The funny thing is, I only recently realised that Brigitte Unwin runs Piko. Brigitte and I were good friends way back in the day in London -- we lived in nearby houses in Bonnington Square and had some adventures together. Her comedown tea, with valerian and whole camomile flowers floating in the cup, was the stuff of legend.

Weren't they great live?
I think Grace Under Pressure would be appropriate for the Haywoods too.

Apropos to anything, we found this the other day. Neither of us has a clue where it came from, apart from Auckland Library that is, apparently it was Withdrawn. Somebody, at some point has affixed typewritten labels to make it read “Quiet and Withdrawn, doesn’t play well with others", possibly an “R. Brown” in 1997.
You find strange things when you upset the balance of the universe by moving things.
Stranger still, by random chance, the Image number is Image (666).jpg.
Wooooo -
And, I've always wanted to play this when moving a house.

Looks like someone is making a garden on the site of brick Piko too.
