  • Russell Brown,

As for Neilsen Ratings. I had no diea one can subscribe. Does it cost anything? Give me a pointer and then the (non) competition can begin :-)

It was $100 a month, and then it went up but I can't recall how much offhand. It's the equivalent of the ABC circulation figures: you need it if you want to sell advertising. It's customary to grumble that they undercount your unique users.

They also have a demographic panel that can cough up some interesting results.

The service is good but the website always seems punishingly slow to me - I tend to look at our internal stats more often. Contacts here:

  • Che Tibby,

i think keith's addition to OnPoint last night just about says it all.

    "DC" does not equal "journalist".

in fact, i'm willing to go out on a limb and use the words, "lying hack"

  • Russell Brown,

Dumb question I know, but why is this so?

As a journalist, if I screw up, then it's my editor's job to deal with it, and to be accountable to management. Getting management involved in editorial issues is a risky path.

OTOH, management getting directly involved in editorial is something of an unfortunate trend these days ...

  • Michael Savidge,

As far as accusations of shonky journalism go, they're already up and running on kiwiblog in response to Nicky Hager's non-release of "The Hollow Men"

Can we get our own wee thread up and running Russell?

    It's gold, Jerry, Gold!

  • Compie,

    Don't mention Sienfeld,

did anyone hear of Michael Richard's diatribe the other night. Makes DC look like a tame hack instaed of big fat lying hack.

  • Rob H,

Are we surprised? N&S must be getting worried: every time a hearse goes past, they lose another reader and they don't get that many ads because the ones they do have are a bunch of provincial humbugs who don't consume. So when they get nervous, N&S and Codders get shrill.

Over the course of her "career" Codders has fudged the stats on Maori, on child abuse, and on solo mothers. I'm just waiting for her to attack men. Surely you could make a great case out of masturbation leading to lowering fertility? then you could finish with a thundering conclusion about porn. Excellent.

And actually, I felt she could have gone further. What about the worry of miscegenation between Chinese market gardeners and Maori girls in Papakura. Oh no, wait, that was 100 years ago. Ah well, what's in a date?

  • Tony Kennedy,

As means of getting round the injunction is there a possibility of somebody reading the “The Hollow Men” aloud in Parliament?

That sounds almost fit for one of New Zealand's other leading exponents of journalism. Perhaps North & South should Investigate.

  • Juha Saarinen,

Apart from me-tooing Russell in that the editor is the first point of contact - that's the person who decides what goes into a publication after all - I'd like to point out that Ken Steinke is no longer at APN.

  • DPF,

Tony - they could do so but only for five minutes at a time on Wednesday general debate.

They could try and table the book in Parliament which would then allow us all to get a free copy!

5 minutes at a time - it could be like the old "Story Time Kids" on Nat Radio. Pity Dick Weir is not an MP
