  • Nobody Important,

Is Bradford as violent a person as she is because she received the odd smack as a child or would she be worse if she never received a smack as all?

Arrrr, 'twas the coppers that made her that way. All them billy clubs on her noggin, when all she was tryin' was a peaceful protest. Arrrr.

  • Russell Brown,

sorry russell, until we have incontrovertable proof that you are not a mind-control pawn of the labour government we will no longer believe you.

Che, if the Wellingtonista couldn't get that information out of me with the use of a maitai served in a pineapple (banned under the Geneva Conventions, I believe), do you really think I'm going to blurt it out to you?

  • Tony Kennedy,

    Sweden is evil …

I must admit, the vision I had was of Russell exiled from Aotearoa and forced to seek the sanctuary and protection of the Swedes, specifically 6 foot blond Swedish volleyball players of the female variety, hence the reference to a nunnery.

I would be up for it myself but for the price of a pint in Stockholm.

Btw the having a cat called Canaille is so you :-)

  • merc,

So are you using Vulcan Mind Weld or Jedi Mind Tricks, serious investigators need to know and Murray wants some more. Also it is against the Geneva Convention to repeatedly use the term Horse Whip instead of Riding Crop, even if you don't, because it's just really bad, mmmkay.
Is you cat really called Canaille? Oh, and Sweden isn't evil, it was just drawn that way.

  • Chuck Bird,

Nobody Important, so I assume you would consider Sue Bradford was always blameless like the Timaru Lady? Would you consider spitting in a police officer's face self defense?

The main issue should be should good parents be penalized by the actions of a handful?. I am talking single digits who have successfully used section 59 to avoid conviction.

The proposed legislation has nothing to do with the welfare of children. It is ideologically driven. The same people who are driving this think it is okay for a 14 year old girl to get a abortion without a parent's knowledge. They are also the same lot who wanted to lower the age of consent to 12.

Children should not have the same rights as adults any more than they should have the same responsibilities.

  • merc,

Quite right, seen, soundly beaten and definitely not heard, good show. This was an ideologically driven message from Kent Brockman, tonight on PAS Entertainment.

hmmm... what about TWO MAITAI IN TWO PINEAPPLES!!

    mua, mua, muahahahahaahahaha!!!

PS. don't forget to give those boys of yours a good slap before bedtime, helps them sleep real good, or so uncle brian tells me.

It might have been the Vulcan Mind Meld I had later at Mighty Mighty.

Is you cat really called Canaille?

We don't talk about Agent Canaille.

Oh, and Sweden isn't evil, it was just drawn that way.

A nice Swedish couple stayed at our flat once. They knew the Swedish royal family. Perhaps I have a suppressed memory about it.

  • merc,

Jaysus, drink 74. Imagine if Bond drank that puppy..."sorry I can't recall firing my 9mm indescriminantly into the crowd, but I can remember pursuading some children that a sound smacking was good for them."
Quite, we don't mention that our cat Bysshe is an atheist with a God complex.
Swedish couples are always nice, until you pass wind in the sauna. Not that I have, don't mention the Royal Family.

Should that be, Children should not have the same rights as the family pet.

while we are on the topic - North & South may heve redeemed itself this issue. Check out the Jenny Chamberlain article.

Please explain. Are you trying to say it is a criminal offense to smack a disobedient dog. If so, quote the act.

  • Che Tibby,

Children should not have the same rights as adults any more than they should have the same responsibilities.

sorry chuck, but that is simply absurd. someone's age should not be a barrier to the application of rights, or the protection of the law.

i agree that some responsibilities are best withheld from children (i think 16 is too young to drive for example).

but rights are very different. if russell can't take a riding crop to agent canaille, and can't hogtie and punch the swedish royal family in the kidneys, then why should you or i be allowed to do either of these things to a child?

children have the right to be spared violence, exactly the same way you and i do.

  • Chuck Bird,

sorry chuck, but that is simply absurd

Chi, I am sure you mean in your humble opinion that my view and that of 80% of the public is absurd. I am not talking about the right to hogtie or use a riding crop on anyone.

In your view what is a right? Is it what you decree or is something that is determined democratically?

Does a 39 week fetus have a right to life or is it up to the mother to decide whether she wants the baby born alive or would rather have a late term abortion?

  • Riddley Walker,

Che, looks like you got yourself a live one there big buddy.
who is Chi? what is Chi? are we not all Chi? i'm figuring it's not a reference to eastern mysticism (that stuff's even more evil than not thrasing your kids and letting them RUN OFF THE RAILS).

You'd need a reliable pre-natal test to determine whether the foetus in question would grow up to be grateful for the occasional corrective thumping. Once you're able to isolate ideologically driven tendencies you can terminate all you want & your problem's solved.

Nobody Important, so I assume you would consider Sue Bradford was always blameless like the Timaru Lady? Would you consider spitting in a police officer's face self defense?

I would consider it self defence if I was spitting at a Policeman coming towards me in a threatening manner whilst both my arms were pinned by two other Policemen.
I was trying to be funny, and hoped my use of arrrr would indicate that. My reply was in response to what I thought was a loaded question:

Is Bradford as violent a person as she is because she received the odd smack as a child or would she be worse if she never received a smack as all?

I don't know whether Bradford is violent or not, but I certainly wouldn't base an opinion on that simply from what I saw on the TV news last century. Has she been violent to you Chuck?

  • Che Tibby,

    i am chi.

i am the lifeforce that flows between one's cat and one's swedish neighbour.

i am a bit like the "the force", but have been spoken of by the chinese for generations and we don't like those chinese much, which is kind of why g.lucas made those trade federation guys so inscrutable.

but lo!! the lord on high did come down to me and explain the difference between a right and a responsibility!

and lo! the lord did say, 80% of the public don't understand this much, but you chi shall! because you are a lifeforce different to 'the force' which was a poor attempt to characterise the holy ghost.

and lo!!! a responsibility is earned, like driving a car! they give you a test for that you know!

and lo!!!! a right is inalienable, like the right to sit the driving test regardless of race or creed!

and LO!!!!! do not be distracted by rubbish arguments about abortion because you are obviously talking to a christian fundamentalist under a silly pseudonym! you can't hogtie a foetus because they are too slippery, but the swedish are doubtless working on it because they are fundamentally evil like all those damn muslims who are a lot like the sand people!

  • Russell Brown,

    i am chi.

You are a sweet but not unpleasant carbonated mineral water, flavoured with honey and kiwifruit and fortified with several Chinese herbs.

You are a key ingredient in New Zealand's greatest homegrown cocktail, the Falling Water.

Furthermore, you were once chosen as the backstage drink, from a selection of local mineral waters, by Sir Cliff Richard.

    That's some mojo.

such as... what sir cliff did to me backstage.

shame... spiced with delight, secrecy and ardour.

    so... so... sweet.

"make me the falling water!" he cried... allegedly.
