I'm loving this quote!
Me too. It has managementspeak written all over it.

I'm loving this quote! Facilitated them right out of the building.
Well, I can think of one Sunday newspaper editor who would go up sharply in my estimation (to zero from a large negative number) if she "facilitated" all of her columnists out the nearest open window. The only thing unpredictable about Michael Laws, in particular, is what new depths of vile cretinism he's plumb in any given week.

Facilitated his viewpoint
Tee hee, whatever the truth of the matter is, it is indeed managementspeak.
My father, bless him, prints out web pages, sticks them in an envelope and posts them to me.
This is the cutest thing I have read all week.
Back to reading the abortion thread </sigh>

Nostalgic memories of unreconstructed subs/setters and proofies made me decide to take a late degree with a view to doing some journo stuff - however, I've been put off the whole idea by what passes for quality now, especially in the newspapers; the rubbish rate paid to freelancers, the celebration of the second rate, shallow, fatuous, glossy and banal ....
tis all very sad....

Joseph Romanos was sacked?
That would explain the drop in circulation. A lot of folk would only read his column. He cunningly wrote about several different sports in one column and always had a mix of anecdote and insight. Sorely missed.
plus he seemed on the money with his opinions.
Well, I can't say that any of the new crop of Listener writers are on their way to icon status, which is certainly the case with some who were let go.
Lamington?

Paul. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed your rendition of "Ol' Man River" in James Whale's 1936 film version of Show Boat and your amazing football prowess displayed in your time with the Milwaukee Badgers. I will never forget the times we had at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, where we.......oh hang on that makes us both about 110 years old. Maybe I'm thinking of two other people.
-
Well, that's it. Won't be renewing the Listener sub
-
Steve- did you read my book too? There was a great article on me in the Listener going back a fair way as well...

I have to come clean, as it were. A little foible I have is to Google someones name with the word badger, like "Grant Dexter" Badger and see what comes up. In his case I got.
It just wouldn't do for jetset playboy and Wimbledon champion Grant Dexter to pull media executive and feisty young woman-in-a-man's-world Dallas-Starshine down onto his black, satin-sheeted bed, just as his hairy bollocks swung into full view of Camera One and he started slapping lard onto her unwelcoming and unprepared nether regions
And
That would leave us viewers to picture the sweaty scene in our minds. It would also allow the more imaginative and disturbed among us to include a man in a badger suit, the Dagenham Girl Pipers and a performing donkey in the bedroom scene without any extra cost to the producers.
Yours was so much better.
