  • Geoff Lealand,

Stephen: thanks for posting the Newport vid. Much appreciated.

If you ever take the Paddington to Cardiff train, you pass through Newport and wonder why!

ETA: That animation is disturbing after a while. Fish lips are somewhat distracting. Just listen to it maybe?

  • Caleb D'Anvers,

Exciting news, but I wanted to reiterate Peter Ashby's point that there's a lot more work to do, especially on the shop interface. It's great that they're selling MP3s, but at the moment individual songs (rather than whole albums) don't seem to be available. And I'd like to know what the bit rates are before I'll shell out for them. It's also not clear if the MP3s are album- or track-length and how they're id'ed, which are issues for those of us who do the whole scrobbling thing. (On the other hand, there's been a "Robot World"-shaped hole in my record collection since I lost my original copy over 10 years ago, so I might just take a punt, as the album's not available via iTunes UK.)

I'm sure all this is in the offing and that the lack of information and options are just aspects of a wet-alpha website, but I'd really like to see them put some more attention into this side of their operation.

Also, the photograph of the Flying Nun "archive," if it is what it purports to be, is just terrifying. I know archivists who would be out cold on the floor within seconds of viewing that image.

  • Tim Michie,

How about linking Juvenilia - The Verlaines Wikipedia to the Flying Nun site... both would be as accurate as each other and we all save the label some time.

  • Ian Dalziel,

re the 3Ds article on the Flying Nun site...
Information specialist, Bruce Russell and/or the content editors are gonna have to lift their game
    a tad...
ya can't get away with a 3rd paragraph intro like...

After initially forming as a trio (hence the name) they were joined in early 1989 by David Mitchell.

...without mentioning that the original 3 members were named David, Dominic and Denise - in fact only Denise is mentioned by name anywhere in the article. Plus no mention by name of the alluded to "earlier Bands" they came from - or are Flying Nun only preaching to the choir... a missed opportunity!

  • philipmatthews,

In other music news, Christchurch's KLF mystery has been solved. Well, I was scratching my head anyway ....

  • Ian Dalziel,

a good way to burn up the dosh...

Christchurch's KLF mystery has been solved.

I had wondered when I saw a sign on Linwood Ave... the only Steve Austin I know was the Six Million Dollar Man ... Chch needs a wrestling aficionado in office as much as it needs an Elvis impersonator - aka Aaron Clown, er Keown or any of its other mandated ex-media types like Sue Wells, Barry Corbett - or Bob Parker...

an aside - NZ's Next New Top (Role) Model ...I was intrigued to note (on telly at the weekend) that MP Anne Tolley has got a new look - she has gone for the Jo Nicholls-Parker "Perky" bob!

    Jo Nicholls-Parker "Perky" bob!

Best ironic use of 'perky' of all time. Just sayin'.
