Sounds like a bloody awful job to me.
Forget Morning Report, just tell the politicians to log in at the pa system, we'll ask good questions and be nice (ish).

I'm a fan. She generally asks the right questions, and sometimes it is necessary for an interviewer to repeatedly ask a question that's not being answered.
Sure -- but let's be honest, when does repeating the same question over and over stop being about journalism and become all about hyping up the drama and the interviewer's ego? Far too often where WIlson and Plunket are concerned but quite fair enough if your tolerance is higher than mine. (And as a general rule of thumb, if my sympathies were with Helen Clark after listening to Morning Report or Checkpoint it was pretty safe to assume that 1) a line was well and truly crossed, and 2) I'm be kind of woozy for the rest of the day.)

As I've said, she did her job last night. There were reasonable questions that Finlayson was trying to avoid answering by simply keeping talking, and she stayed on it.
If the great and good discover that they can avoid answering any question by simply ignoring it, we're poorly served.

I've just caught up with Plunkett's interview with Len Brown this morning and have noted on t'other thread (along with audio link) that his persistence seems to have paid off this time.

Plunket's a fine interviewer, generally, and he has a doggedness that one needs when dealing with mealymouthed politicians. Wilson has it too, and would be a fine replacement, if only for the fact that I quite like her just where she is.
A few politicians will be breathing a sigh of relief at the news of Plunket's departure.

I just started listening to National Radio, I flip and it's in my flip zone now a lot because there is a lot of interesting stuff...
But Morning Report sounds weird, sounds snotty.
" a one word answer, are you going to win the christchurch mayoralty?"
That was a question today of two contestants.What are they supposed to say? What's the point of that question?

And while it was vastly entertaining, I fail to see how the frontiers of human knowledge were expanded by Jeremy Paxman infamous baiting of Michael Howard by asking the same question twelve times in succession. What got lost in that stunt -- which Paxman later said was an attempt to prolong the interview until the next item was ready -- was that the interview was about a pretty damn serious subject: Allegations that Howard, while Home Secretary, had tried to monster the head of the Prison Service into firing a prison governor.
Might have been more useful -- if less of a You Tube hit -- if Paxman had had the presence of mind of come up with a follow-up question or two.
And I can tell you from direct experience, badgering Finlayson is frustratingly ineffective.
