Can't make the movie either way, but let's kick it off with this:

Despite the temptation I won't say anything rude about reggae but, in respect of next week's Media 7, have you seen the diatribe by Louise Nowra against Germaine Greer in the Aussie journal The Monthly (the current issue)?

Ahh, the Mid-Nineties - the top NZ Reggae tours of all time - Mad Prof. Macka B, Sister Audrey and Kofi; African Head Charge; Dub Syndicate and Audio Active. Serious sounds, Sounds serious, You must be crackers!

David Rodigan - King of the Soundclash

Rocksteady? I was expecting a post about mining!
And then I saw the words "Speaking of..." and expected a segue to mining.
And there's a new mash-up ... featuring Rep John Boehner losing the plot over healthcare reform
I was able to flick on the C-Span feed for the end of the House debate, and thought Boehner did a much better job in his final speech than Pelosi did in hers. But that's probably not what this is about.

Agree on Massive Attack. Leave the politics at home next time please, and start the classics before we get antsy.
I always get nervous when someone other than Liz Fraser does Teardrop, but Martina Topley Bird mostly nailed it. The older stuff was excellent. Safe from Harm one of many highlights. Horace Andy. Legend.
Here's a nice Liz Fraser Teardrop from Abbey Road.

No! But I'm most interested.
[Edit] Here it is.

I see John Lydon's been raiding his classic 1977 playlist ...

Sense has prevailed, and [Independent News and Media] has flicked the assets that have been costing, rather than making money
So the moral of that is that to make money in newspapers, you need more Garth George and less Robert Fisk.
Or, you need a pliant government that happily allows a daily newspaper monopoly in every city.

3410,
Dr. Alimantado meets Horace Andy:
-
Scientist - Dance of the Vampires.
As featured on K-JAH, the only station worth listening to. At the time, it drove me batty that every time I stole a car, I'd have to retune the radio to 103.7FM.
:)

From the great movie of the same name:

Just trying to tie things together.
John Lydon + Tim Buckley = Song to The Siren
This Mortal Coil + Alex Chilton = KangarooAnd here it is, but by Big Star. R.I.P

Yes... have wondered about that one for a while. Has this ever been referred to a competition commission (or similar)?
-
Off topic, but would the news media just leave Bailey Kuariki the fuck alone. Do they go after the other people involved in the same way??

Augustus Pablo. That melodica is the backing track to many a long night in Ward Lane Tavern (RIP), Hamiltron.

Gregory Isaacs classic at Sunsplash. Boom!

I'm already looking forward to next week's show, which takes the 40th anniversary of the publication of The Female Eunuch as a kick-off point. We have Marilyn Waring and Gemma Gracewood with one more panellist tbc
Garth George! Garth George! Garth George!

I've always had a soft spot for ..
-
Something we used to love playing to my son when he was a baby - lie him down on the floor in front of the speakers (volume low) and the bass would soothe him into sleep!
-
this is my all time favourite . . . fantastic for dancing too while holding an overwrought baby
-
Awesome. Reggae. Something I think I can actually comment on.
This one is absolutely fantastic. It is on the album "Children Of Jah (1977-1979) - Various Artists". any Reggae fan that doesn't have this album is denying themselves on of life's great pleasures.
And, if I'm not breaking any rules by posting more than one, that album also has:
And if you like that, you should definitely check out the remix (The Erb Remix) that features on "Select Cuts from Blood & Fire Vol.1"

Oh, and on the Massive Attack / Horace andy subject, if you haven't already heard this, you really should:

Didn't the competition (the Star) just go out of business? It's not like the Herald bought them up.
