Whilst portrayed correctly in early life as a small businessman, AE Davy did have some family connections in politics beyond those of local commerce. Alberts family emigrated to New Zealand in the 1840’s from the area of Bridgend (near Cardiff). His great grandfather was a Captain in the East India Company, a grand-nephew of Dr Richard Price of Tynton, (instigator of the Boston Tea Episode and associate of Benjamin Franklin/Thomas Jefferson). Whether Albert knew of these connections or not is unsure, however if he did, the knowledge may have inspired the young man to higher ambitions.
