  • Che Tibby,

And I don’t care what anybody says, growth hormones, fat, cholesterol, allergenic proteins, blood, pus, antibiotics, bacteria, and viruses do not “do a body good!”

jesus... thanks for that steve... i'll file it next to someone's description of eggs as "chicken menstruation".

thats probably cos chemo is a bit of a diet killer,

That's a shit, Sofie. My husband had intensive chemo, and it's a buggery bastard of a thing. To boost his appetite he used herbal remedies. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink....Worked a treat. He still looked skeletal, but at least he was eating.

"right on". those herbal remedies are well-recognised as an anti-nausea agent, and also increase appetite for some.

as long as they don't effect the chemo drugs themselves, then get him into them.

Do you think the providers of the container load of spinach I just bought might call you tomorrow; I might need some support canceling the deal...?

Sure, as long as I don't have to moo at them.

For the past year, I haven,t been too well but after the very successful weight loss programme (quaranteed :-)) one does start to look for alternatives and yes thanks had lots of suggestions, many of which help.Happily I am nearly right and energy etc is returning although not as fast as I want, but hey! I will be okay and thanks for all the kind words. The bright side is I don't shave me legs! It also helps when your man is a strong support which I am lucky to have .Hasta manana! or so we say when speaking spanish.:-)

soy products but they're not cheap either - 500 mls of most non-GMO soy milk is around the AUD $3.00 mark.

I buy soy milk from Aldi at $1.49 per litre, and So Good is $2.35 at my local IGA, so I'm sure it doesn't have to be that expensive. I paid about $2.50 per litre in NZ.

The whole calcium and dairy thing is vastly overstated; as you would expect it's is pushed heavily by the dairy industry. Yes, there is a reasonable level of calcium in milk, but there are similar amounts of calcium in a large range of other foods, some of which allow the body to take the mineral better than milk, which contains large amounts of protein (which inhibits uptake). The Physisicians Committee for Responsible Medicine provide a counterpoint to the dairy lobbies, on this and other issues.

plus,* * i have heard * *, you can often get the same positive effects without some of the negative effects by cooking in various ways....

Locally, I pay at least $2.50 (also IGA) but it's for a litre you're right - I looked at the packet again this AM.

Thanks for the links too - I'll follow this up.

Man I want to shop where StatsNZ shop. My 2 litres of milk cost me a heap more than that - up over $4.

Having said this, I checked at the supermarket last night, $3.30. A case of thinking things are more expensive than they are.

don't fret. you've obviously been indoctrinated by the msm.

and @sophie. hope that herbal remedy gets you feeling better. if you aren't sure which shop to buy it from then there must be someone here who could point you to the right retailers.

  • Islander,

"Why would anyone pay +$4?" asks Graeme-

mainly because they dont have a choice?

I live in a relatively remote area: I shop at what is also the mail agency (saving an additional trip) for bare essentials - papers, onions, that kind of thing. O, and a litre of milk a week....which costs $2.95.

OK, I guess I could choose not to be addicted to my large morning flat white-made-with-real-fullfat-milk - but hey, I've tried every known fullfat real milk substitute and they all taste like - well, not the same.
And that's the only time I use milk (and also the only time I drink coffee...) Cheese: dont get me started on cheese! (strokes her dear little cheese-hutch wherein several snooze, maturing...)

I've paid well over $4 for two litres of milk very recently. Maybe it as at the corner dairy. Maybe it was at New World in Birkenhead. I don't remember.

    Why would anyone pay $4+?

The supermarket on Rarotonga sells fresh milk for $14.95 NZ/2 litres. That's A2 fancy milk, they don't seem to have regular fresh milk there.

Most of the milk consumed on the island is long-life milk in just juice type litre containers. About $3.50/litre.

It confused me shopping for a minute until I realised there was no dairy industry in the Cooks to speak of.

Ah, New World. That'd do it. My flat shops at Pak'n'Save, and gets 3L bottles of milk for about $4.30.

  • Gareth Ward,

I needed milk at about 10pm last night, and the Williamson Ave petrol station would only sell it to me via that "bullet-proof screen and sliding box" night sales assembly.
While it may have simply been because they were closed, it did make it feel all rather clandestine-Soviet-blackmarket-food-stamps-aid styles. Didn't half feel like hiding it under my coat on the walk back home...

Perhaps I shouldn't have played Grand Theft Auto before heading out for it either...
