  • Tony Parker,

Just as an aside--I am in Dunedin Wed-Friday and I notice that Marianne Dissard (with Flip Grater & Delany Favidson) are playing there on Thursday night. Worth going to, do you reckon?

Geoff. I saw them in Napier. 3 quite different artists.Marianne does her stuff to live backings (sounds like it's real people playing instruments) off her laptop as she plays no instrument herself. It's better than it sounds as she does it in a cabaret kind of way. Delany uses his guitar and a looping machine to generate rhythms and stuff for his southern gothic style and ends up sounding like a cross between Tom Waits and Sparklehorse. When the 3 of them sang together at the end it's quite good too. I enjoyed it.

  • Aidan,

I feel the need to preface this with something like ... BEST DRUM SOLO EVAH .. just to annoy the proprietor

  • Rich Lock,

Not too early to start the drummer jokes then???

Here's one that's apparently one of Dave Grohl's favourites:

Q: What's the difference between a drummer and a drum machine?

A: You only have to punch the information into a drum machine once.

I caught a portion of a programme the other night, about improving the fare at Little Chef roadside 'restaurants' in the UK. That would be an uphill battle. I had possibly the worst meal in my life at one near Nottingham a couple of years back.

Little Chef is where the chefs that fail the airline food cooking course end up.

Seriously. Scrambled eggs that you cooked, then froze, then thawed, then cooked again. How did you ever expect anything good to come from such evil?

Thanks, Kyle. I think I will give that a go as I hadn't realised quite what a journey it is to Pt. Chalmers.

As a Dunedinite, I recommend you catch "I'm Not Harry Jenson"; a slow-building but effective Kiwi flic on at the Rialto. Has had zilch publicity (except on-line) and I fear it could sink without trace--I was the sole audience member at a screening today.

Caught that on Monday at a pre-screening. Spot the shortland street stars (and Ian Mune).

I thought it was pretty good, well done on a low budget.

(Come say hi if you do come to Delgirl tonight. I'm the really tall guy with glasses, with the relatively short girlfriend)

  • recordari,

Voodoo Riddim Haiti benefit at Monte Cristo room on Sunday.

More drums than you can shake a stick at. Oh god, did I just say that?

Frankly I think Graham should have to attend as a sort of drummers revenge. And don't forget, it's for a good cause. More details on the Facebook page.

Oh, and some brothers & sisters doing a benefit gig at Powerstation tonight. Hot Grits/King Kapisi/DLT/Bundy/djrogerperry/Teremoana etc. Huge!

    Cheers.
